Why loading so slow? Cause of the 2003 hackers?

I had some pretty bad loading times when the game first came out. Now, on average its about as fast as Riddick is. Which is very fast. like, 10-15 seconds fast

I've got a pretty crappy computer, GeForce3 Ti200, and comparable other specs.

I recently got Pariah and it runs better than HL2 with similar graphical settings. The loading times are about 10 seconds tops, compared with HL2's 1-3 mins. Guess is because of the streaming technology in the U3E. Damn i like that engine!

Or maybe it's because your hl2 gcf is fragmented all over your HDD

Pariah is U2 not U3 isn't it?

I haven't played it yet, but I seem to remember that it has been in development for a while, where as the U3 Engine isn't actually used by anything yet as far as i know.

But U3 does look like a sweet engine. Should be a bit ahead of source. The Unreal 2 engine has been around a few years now, and so is more optimized. Plus U2 was originally designed to be very flexible on system specs. And since it was developed a few years back the lower end of these system specs will be lower than those Source was developed for.

Can someone tell me how farcry could have huge levels with detailed textures and not take long to load? I played the game on high quality and it played great and didn't take long to load with 512 megs of ram..

On half-life 2 I do medium textures, takes about a minute or less to load. Not bad, but I wish it was better. I miss high quality textures
