Why must the cd be inserted to play hl2?

Why? oh WHY? I dont have an extra 5 gigs on my computer for nothing. It asks for the cd to be inserted when I hit play half-life 2. And to boot it is 100% loaded (I checked). Why?

I dont know man, maybe just to piss us off. But if you didnt need the CD/DVD I would be playing HL2 right now. It seems my DVD of HL2CE doesnt want to work.

mine dont ask for a CD but it just dont fucing load i downloaded mine off the steam it self took 2 hours

Hey brianchristopher, go into my computer right click your DVD drive and go to properties look for a tab called DLA and go to it and disable DLA. That will get you one step further. Now you're where I am. I get the error unable to authenticate original disc within time limit.
