Why is it that recently, the word "muslim" has become synonymous with "terrorist".

I recall that not too long ago, I wrote for an assignment in my english class, "Obama was upset that Fox news had sullied his political reputation with the recent muslim story...". My teacher replied with big, bold, blue felt pen lettering reading "What are you talking about? He sullied himself. He's a terrorist!"

Ok, so maybe the linked story doesn't explicitly say that they believe muslims to be terrorists, but they DO explicitly state "the giant mosque could damage community relations in the area".

WTF.

The guys who wanted it built seem like nice people....

Controversial plans to build a “supermosque” on the doorstep of the London Olympics will be blocked by the Government.

Ruth Kelly’s Whitehall department is expected to refuse planning permission for the London Markaz, which would be the biggest religious building in Britain with room for 70,000 worshippers.

Backers want the ?300 million mosque, in east London, to serve as a reception centre for athletes and fans from Islamic countries during the 2012 games.

The group behind the plans is Tablighi Jamaat, a Muslim missionary sect whose charitable trust, Anjuman-e-Islahul Muslimeen, has owned the 18-acre site since 1996. Tablighi Jamaat was called “an ante-chamber for fundamentalism” by French security services. Two of the July 7 London suicide bombers are believed to have attended one of its mosques.

The organisation denies any link to terrorism, and has never been banned.

Listen, when Muslims are terrorists, they ARE terrorists. The guys who are pushing for this to be built are not nice guys. They're not moderate, and they're not the kind of people you would want to go about, based on the above.

ignorance and watching to much fox/ other types of tripe.

it too easy just to label a group people as the bad guy and blame your life's ills on them.

I fear this will never change.

so what if they attended the mosque, you cant hold the mosque responsible for their actions, im Catholic if a stranger sat beside my in mass and later went out abd shot up half of galway and everyone in it, would you blame my and the church we were in, thats just not right, i say let them build it,england have gone to war, sent thousands of troops to afganistan and iraq, all these guys want is a place to worship

show me where fox says all Muslim are terrorists.

Not all muslims are terrorists, but the koran does call for terrorism, and many listen.

It's the same as how not all christians are homophobes, but the bible demands homophobia and a big chunk of their population consequently are homophobic.

Of course, most people are just incredibly stupid about this and don't actually have a valid reason to dislike islam.

But the underlying reasons do exist and are valid.

Haha... "He may be fair, but he's certainly not balenced."

Jon Stewert, reporting on a Fox News reporter who was constantly falling over during a hurricane. :D

Anyway, back on topic.

Mass Media, end of story. :D

Er, Who does the 3rd 'He' refer to, because I have no idea why your teacher would call Obama a terrorist. In that context, anyway. D:

Haha thanks for my laugh for the day.

Im sorry, but it DOESNT call for terrorism. Its simply states, all the time, that no matter what you do you will go to heaven.

I lived in the Middle East for 4 years, and ive yet to meet more welcoming, funny and generally nice people in my entire travelling life.

Wonder why kids that kill everyone in their own school arent called terrorists? Just 'hostage takers' or 'the victims of gaming'...jesus, ***king MEDIA!!!!

"Slay them wherever you find them...Idolatry is worse than carnage...Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God's religion reigns supreme." (Surah 2:190-)

"Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it." (Surah 2:216)

"Believers, do not make friends with any but your own people...They desire nothing but your ruin....You believe in the entire Book...When they meet you they say: 'We, too, are believers.' But when alone, they bite their finger-tips with rage." (Surah 3:118, 119)

"If you should die or be slain in the cause of God, His forgiveness and His mercy would surely be better than all the riches..." (Surah 3:156-)

"Seek out your enemies relentlessly." (Surah 4:103-)

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends." (Surah 5:51)

"...make war on the leaders of unbelief...Make war on them: God will chastise them at your hands and humble them. He will grant you victory over them..." (Surah 9:12-)

"Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:27-)

"It is He who has sent forth His apostle with guidance and the true Faith [Islam] to make it triumphant over all religions, however much the idolaters [non-Muslims] may dislike it." (Surah 9:31-)

"If you do not fight, He will punish you sternly, and replace you by other men." (Surah 9:37-)

"Prophet make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home." (Surah 9:73)

"Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Deal firmly with them." (Surah 9:121-)

Need I go on?

I lived in the Middle East for 4 years, and ive yet to meet more welcoming, funny and generally nice people in my entire travelling life.

Well gee, I guess because you've met some nice Muslims means that their Holy book must be all sunshine and rainbows!

Wonder why kids that kill everyone in their own school arent called terrorists? Just 'hostage takers' or 'the victims of gaming'...jesus, ***king MEDIA!!!!

Terrorism is in pursuit of a political/religious goal. School shootings generally arent.

Why does everyone think muslims are terrorists?

Why does everyone think Americans are fat and stupid?

Nobody knows. NOBODY. Though gick may know...

Can't read Koran, my eyes bleed from that sentence build. :D Wait a second gick, where does it say you should fight with fire and sword ;)?

Gick's got it correct.

And don't get too cocky Walter; your religion demands the same thing.

I love you, Gick.

The Koran does explicitly call for violent conquest. That is the Islamic terrorism you see today. This isn't even some perversion of the Islamic faith that's strayed from the path of peace. It is right there in the friggin' book. If you want to be a proper Muslim, you also have to be one willing to kill and slaughter others aggressively. The religion is so steeped in murder and martyrdom that even the moderates wiggle and squirm in their chairs on television when asked if they condemn such acts of atrocity.

Unlike Christianity today, there has yet to be a powerful force of secularism that has de-balled Islam.

the west needs to sell it's populace on the war on terror; scapegoating, history has shown, is very effective in galvanising the marginally retarded into supporting your every move

Germans are generally nice people, but they were responsible for one of the most abhorrent political movements in history.

I am by no means comparing Arabs and/or Islam with Nazism, but simply pointing out that your line of reasoning has flaws. Remember it's not only the extremists that are dangerous, it's a majority of apathy (or inaction) that allows it to happen.

muslin are equalled to terrorist becauze bush and the usa say so and everyone listen

Having said all that, its also very stupid to say 'all Muslims are terrorists' - luckily the vast majority of them (in the west at least) tend to ignore the really nasty parts of the Koran, kinda like Christians and the Bible, Jews and the Torah etc etc.

Still, I see absolutely no reason not to be concerned about folks who teach such content yet don't follow it. That's just asking for someone to eventually pick up the reigns.

All Muslims aren't terrorists, it's just the majority of terrorists being Muslim that gives them a bad name.

So all Muslims have to be terrorists in order for us to disapprove of having a giant great alien monument to an ideology that is completely abhorrent slapped down in the middle of our capital city?
You'd have to be a lunatic to encourage cultural imperialism on your own soil, and a fool to think it wouldn't be a breeding ground for terrorism.

Not to mention, it was going to be funded by Saudi extremists anyway.

Dynasty, you lived as the teenage son of a rich expatriate in Dubai. That gives you even less firsthand understanding of the Middle East than an overseas student in San Fransisco has of the USA.

Topsquid said it perfectly.

Anyway, if this happened in Denmark, I don't know what would happen, because there are two factors - 1: Apparently, we insulted Islam; They are ready to destroy, kill and maim AGAIN if we do anything like it again, and that probably includes rejecting servitude by having a giant Mosque in the center of a secular country's largely secular capital.

The solution doesn't equal more mosques, but more talk. But I'm beginning to think that it's really pointless, because the ones who raise their voices are the extremists. And who wants to talk to them?

....Oh yeah, John Kerry. But still.

Well, the Labour government did build the Millenium Dome...

Ahh, if only I was into British politics.

Apparently, Red Ken is a member of Labour. Does that mean they're all... you know, kooks?

Ayatollah Blair?

I'm waiting for someone to do a photoshop of that.

Nah, he's too much of a pussy to be an Ayatollah. He's more of an enabler. He sits in the corner wearing a veil and chants "purge the economy!"

John Reid is an ex-commie too. Check out the website "they work for you" (can't recall url) and see his voting record...anything heavyhanded and authoritarian he's strongly in favour of.

I like how John Reid agreed with David Cameron on the "Right to a private past" (as did Gary Glitter), in light of that fact.

He insists on being called "Doctor Reid", even though his PhD thesis was something about Collectivised industry or something.

Solaris, you will be John Reid in the future! Except less Scottish.
