Agreed. An as much as some people hate Steam, it's our first step to killing EA and the likes.

i think everyone here agrees, it's the console n3wbs who fund EA... who have no taste in good quality games! they just buy a new copy of Madden EVERY year, it bugs the piss out of me how badly informed gamers are! they think "OMGz0r! this -insert crappy EA game here- IS AWWWWESOME!" they don't know what else is out there! ... but what can we do?

I hate people who consider themselves gamers because they play Madden for 4 hours or something, like those so called "celebs" they have on Players on G4.

Its not just EA, its about funding the little guy. If you think about it, these small, independent game developers are the ones that radically change the games industry. Small, independent companies is where innovation comes from, not from a monolithic company. Getting rid of Valve or ID would really hurt PC Gaming.

Plus, I want to show how pirating Half-Life 2 or Doom 3 will hurts game developers. I want to see how somebody can justify pirating a video game from Valve or ID when it will directly affect the future of the PC games industry.

I blame the pc 'n3wbs' who've been buying The Sims ;)

Agreed. It's due to respected and hard working developers such as id and valve that we get good PC games once in a decade. Even though they take their time, delay and are slow - they statisfy us for a good 4 or 5 years unlike EA which throws crap at us every month.

yeah, plus ID has put 4 years of work into doom3 and from screens and vids, it looks excellent, they must of put so much work into and it looks like it will pay off, personnaly with games like doom3 I think its good that they take their time to actually make the game rather then rushing it out and just giving us patches. It definatly pays off in the end, but i dont buy the games from independent companys just to get back at EA, i buy them cause some of them are good

I don't really see why people need convincing into buying Doom 3 (seeing they probably will anyway), although I do agree why. :D

Not all EA games are bad. I have a lot of fun with Madden with friends. The LOTR games are pretty good. I don't like the Battlefield games but a lot of people do. Generals was good. That new Bond game was good.

I'm certainly not going to buy a product to support a company. That's stupid, I'm going to buy games that are worth my money regardless of who makes it. Seeing as Doom 3 is primarily a single player game that I would probably never play again after I beat it, I'm not going to buy it. Instead I'll play it whenever I go to a friends house, and eventually beat it. Now I will buy Half-Life 2, because it will keep me coming back.

if u are a hardcore Doom series fan.. this is a "must have" title for u.
and well if u have never played Doom.. then this is ur chance to get into the series and perhaps feel what us "old farts" experienced with the very first MP fps game :p

i hope they make an NS type mod for Doom3 :cheese:
that would so kickass :dork:

Why do we keep talking on weather or not people are buying or downloading the game? You arent going to change someone's mind and it happens to every game. As a matter of fact if you where to download it and then send them 50$ for the cdkey im sure they would be even happyer than you giveing their publisher the $.

Thats the problem. You want to play the game, but you are not going to pay for it. Playing it at a friends house is okay, but way too many people are going to pirate it. They justify it because Doom 3 will not have a massive multiplayer element. Do console people say, I am going to steal Grand Theft Auto because it doesn't have multiplayer? Nope.

What makes you say that Half-Life 2 will provide you with more value? Do you sneak into a movie theater if a movie you want to see is only an hour and a half long instead of the typical 2 hours long? You should pay for the movies you want to see, regardless of their run time. Video games should be the same way.

Not buying Doom 3 until the hype dies down and the truth emerges. I need non-doom fans saying it rocks before I'll concider buying it.

Main reason being their monsters are horribly unimaginative, and worse yet, just plain stupid.

forget that. I'm not buying it. period. flying fat babies? Upsidedown heads with legs? Skeletons with rocket launchers?
Very, very, VERY poor monster design, which would completely ruin a game that already lacks even the slightest glint of a likeable plot.

edit, by not buying I mean not playing. period. not boycotting it, just...too stupid to waste my time on.

What game do you think has good monster design?

I personally think the bad guys in Doom3 suit the game fine. After the human Trigens in FarCry it can only get better :)

lol. That means you won't be playing Half-Life 2 either. Combines and striders are not exactly new monsters either. lol

Maybe you should read up on the story of Doom 3. They actually hired a writer for Doom 3 to write out a plot. You should also watch the new G4 footage, they show some more details about the Doom 3 storyline. It actually looks impressive.

For that matter HL2 also has unimaginative monsters, yet you have enough time to waste on a message board related to such a game.

The antlions are a rip off of from starship troopers, and the strider is an idea from the book (forgot the name).

I'm not saying HL2 is bad, but I want to keep my options open and buy Doom 3 for what it is.

EDIT: blah beat me to it.

i think most of here have pirated somethign at some point. I'm no exception. The only games i'd pirate however r ones i wouldn't buy anyways and just dont feel like wasting my money. Sure that doesn't justify it, but i'm not trying to. If i feel a game deserves it, then i'll pay money for it. And i'm going to be buying doom3 and hl2.

I would be buying doom3 guys... turth be told im waiting for their special release. I HATE! when companys do what i call "evil marketing" like say for instance lord of the rings return of the king. The final dvd they are going to sell was made b4 the one everyone has bought was out. Now in november the special edition will come out. Finatics and yes i am one would have to buy 2 copys of this title if they wanted to the best experiance. Doom3 still hasent stated weather that edition will be for sale augest 3rd... and thats what i want.

i know, i hate how they do that kinda thing, they're clever. I just dont give in to that crap. If they release the same film with extra footage later on i just say screw it cause i aint paying for something twice.

No Doom 3 special edition. ID has publicly stated so. They determined that they couldn't find anything "cool" to put into the collectors editions so they decided against producing it.

heres another reason why u should buy Doom3!!

its MODS!!!

Link to Doom3 mod listings

was browsing around and they sound interesting enough.. and although one can point and say "3 mods? HA!" to that i say.. eventually more mods will pop up once the game has been released :p

Actually, you've stepped into your own trap. 3 mods are actully not enough compared to how many mods we are seeing for HL2 being made ready. Although, planet doom is not the most up-to-date site anyway, so there must be many but not as much as HL2.

im not buying D3 to spite companies like EA and such
im buying it because it's going to be a great game

well i never made a comparasion to HL2 in any sort of way...
i know Doom3 isn't as popular in the MP element as HL2 is.. and we are talking about these games even before they are released.

oh well i guess what i posted is more of a bonus for those of us who are getting the game anyway.. and a few mods adds to the excitement :)

and ur right... there are mod teams out there who haven't announced their work to the gamers.. so surely there should be a few surprises.. ;)

Here's a list of D3 mods:

Ok but you'll be missing out on the fun

Why not try the demo coming up and decide for yourself, wow that sure was a tough decision.

Hey can you write up a review of your experience playing it then? I'm sure we'd all appreciate it.

Oh wait...what's that? You haven't actually played the game yet? No, that can't be.....you said it has stupid monsters, no story, and is a waste of time. So you played it right? Really? You actually haven't played it?

Wow, never would have guessed. Thanks for your time anyway.

Monster design is a tricky thing. I remember seeing pictures of HL1 monsters in magazines before i had the game and i thought they looked ridiculous. Though the game created such a fantastic atmosphere the monsters became convincing, eery and didn't have me doubting while i was playing.

I also think Far Cry had woefully designed monsters but the game was such utter garbage the story and atmosphere did nothing to help this already bad situation.

Some people may think Doom 3's heads on spiders look silly, but delivered to you in the right way and you'll have a new appreciation for them. I just hope it's done in the right way.

But i have the game pre-ordered! I'm certainly buying it.

you sure thats a list of doom3 mods....it sounds more like a list of the worst mod names ever

Its not about the number of mods right now, it is about the number of the will actually finish their mod and put out a quality product. I think the number of completed mods may be higher for Doom 3 than Half-Life 2 since Doom 3 isn't the "cool" engine to mod for. So the people modding for Doom 3 are aware of the engine abilities/limitations and have actual talent. I can promise you that many (if not most) of the Half-Life 2 mods current announcement shouldn't be making a mod at all.

i think doom will pull of great singleplayer, but the mod community will be pretty much dead on arrival... kind of like max payne 2

You do realize this is an id game don't you? People are going to jump all over it to mod.

I have been burned too many times on gams like this. Max Payne 2 was a great game, one of my favorites. But I beat it very shortly after I bought it, it was great but it wasn't worth $50. That game is worth nothing to me now. I predict Doom 3 will be very similar, if it had a better multiplayer then I would probably buy it. Hell, after I play it and decide there's enough replay there, I may buy it.

GTA is different, I couldn't rent GTA and get everything out of it. I would end up giving Blockbuster a lot more money than the game costs before I used up a GTA game. That's why it's worth buying, and that's why I'm going to buy it. However, my mentality with console games is the same as PC games. If they don't have enough to keep me coming back, then I will spend $5 renting it and enjoy it just as much as the people who spent $50 buying it. With Doom 3, since I can't rent PC games, I would either never play it or play it at a friends.

I'm sorry, but if you look at games like Half-Life 2, GTA, MGS, or any other game which provides incentive to keep you coming back, you realize how much more value you are getting for your buck than with short but sweet single player games.

If I can rent a game and beat it within the week I get to play it, I won't pay the full cash to buy it, for instance Full Spectrum Warrior. Now Max Payne 2 I bought for PC and still play to this day because of mods.

geez, people. you pour hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars into a top-quality PC and you're not going to buy doom3 just because "the monsters look dumb"? geez! it's f*ckin doom 3, man! the sequel to doom and doom 2, two of the greatest pc games in history! i'm getting it simply for the legacy. same with half-life 2. i'm not going to expect a perfect game and i'm not going to be uber-judgemental. doom, doom 2, and half-life have all left a lingering trail of success and i'm sure their sequels won't fail to impress one way or the other.

and why is everybody ragging on EA? they don't make, the games, they just publish them. the sims was madeby maxis. madden is made by players, inc. battlefield 1942/vietnam was made by DICE. doom 3 was made by id software but it is being published by activision. half-life 2 is made by VALVe but it is being published by vivendi universal. don't hate the messenger, they're just in it for the money.

Well I dont know about the rest of you but to me all the evidense i need to but Doom3 is in the screens, plus why woudnt you buy doom3? I mean comeon, but if you dont then you will be missing out on a sequel to one of the greatest games ever made, your loss, we will all be busy playing in its glory. Plus doom3 is a gonna be moddable, so i cant wait for a nice ww2 mod to come out :)

Doom 3 has a multiplayer part of the game. While it may only be 4 players, I used to play 4 player DM back in the day and I had a lot (and I mean a lot) more fun than playing a larger internet game today. The reason is that you don't have some retard spoiling the game by flying a plane into the building (and other things).

Also, Doom 3 is a very modable game. After all, ID software did make this game. At the very least, there will be a bunch of multiplayer maps coming out shortly after the game is released. Then the mods will be released after that.

As for a short game, Doom 3 is not nearly as short as Max Payne 2. Doom 3 will take you about 23 hours to complete. That is a lot longer than Max Payne's 8 hours of gameplay (or whatever the number is).

As for replaying single player games, I do it all the time because I find it fun. Games that are fun, I naturally want to replay them at least once or twice.
