Im moving this february to a new place and there i can get 1 Gbit for like $80 a month. Do you guys think its worth it? Do i really need that much? Can my hardrive even handle that much? I think its kind of expensive.

gimme some help..

i can choose between:

10mbit = $17 \month
100mbit = $35 \month
1000mbit = $80 \month

you do not need 1gbit at all

Those are osme nice prices. o_O I think you would be fine with the 10 mbit, but for 35 a month I would go with the 100mbit

Seriously, dude. What are you gonna do with that, download a ****ing Buick?

I'd be happy with 10, maybe you'd consider going for 100, because that's lan speed. But 1000, you are going to fill up your harddisk really fast.
There's certainly not going to be any difference playing games with that speed, maybe your ping will go from 21 to 20.
You got to consider what you're going to be using it for. Huge file transfer or emailing people your hard disk, yeah, 1000 is great.

I lean towards 100mbit atm cuz thats what i pay for 2mbit at the moment.. ;)

Where do you live!!! Thats really cheap for those speeds.

EDIT: Well if i would have looked at your info, looks like I'm moving to Sweden :D

If I remember correctly even tho you may get 100mbits it usually depends on how many hops it has to take to get from one point all the way to another.

lol I wish i live in ur country,

Uk prices like:

1mbit = £30
4mbit=£40-60
8mbit=£120

If you want a 10mbit -100mbit you require to pay over £1000 a month to get it ;(

thats insanity...

Dude, I live in the middle of the forest and pay $40 for 512kbs.. Go for the 100, if you won't choose the 1000.. which is insane. Think of how fast you could download stuff. :D

in an instant!

you won't even use half of the 1000 Mbits capasity... unless of course you have like 500 computers downloading at once or something...

go for the 10, or maybe even the 100... you don't need more than 10 though, because there are so veeery few places on the internet where you can download a file in 100 mbits...

actually, there are really few places where you can download in 10 mbits too, but...

anyways, i'd say go for the 10 mbits :p

I think most modems dont allow you to have more then 11 mb's downstream, but I could be wrong.

. . and than you need a server that will let you/be able to download that fast.

bet you guys didnt know that 1 in 4 people sign up for brodband to download porn.
Why do you think most of us signed up for broadband?

My 1.5mbps is $39.99US :(

And I would guess its sharply higher then 1 in 4, but only 25% of people are willing to admit it :p

Well you dont use a modem for this connection ;). I think i will settle for a 100mbit there are alot of people here in sweden with 10-100mbit to download from! But you are right 1000mbit is insanley much, but i would be really badass to come into a filehsaring network named [1000mbit]h00dlum (to share legal files of course) ;)

Jealous? :p

I say go for it, I'd love to have a connection that fast. Wouldn't need to think about my brothers hogging the line with downloads. We have a 1mbit connection :x

1Gbit would be the maclaren F1 of the internet. Just think how much cyber pussy you would get...

No way the prizes are than cheap. We're paying $35/month (250 kr) for 250 Kbit. Where do you live? Fjollträsk? ;)

I believe he's telling the thruth. At least I've seen it in some article in a newspaper here in Norway.

The only way to take advantage of a 1Gbit connection is to download a bunch of files at the same time though. No servers can handle that sort of traffic yet. In a few years maybe, but it's pretty much overkill ATM. 10Mbit is more than enough.

A guy from our team works for an ISP, he gets 4MB to his house for free.

1000Mbit...that's crazy. My T1 serves me just fine.

Wow. I would go with the 100 Mbit connection. That is still 25 times faster than my 4 mbit connection. I am really happy with my 4 Mbit connection too.

With a 1000 Mbit connection, it would be wasted because no server would be able to send you stuff as fast as you could handle it.
