Now, I support the war in Iraq (No flames please, I simply believe it was about 10 years overdue) and the general crackdown on terrorism... but it recently occured to me that I am probably on either the UK or US's (but most likely the Spanish) list of potential terrorists:

I am a young male.
I have ties to Catalonia (I'm a 1/4 Catalan for those who care)
Catalonia wants independance.
Theres a Catalan terrorist group.
I visited Barcalona earlier in the summer.

I'm not answering the door.....

(personally I think Catalonia should be granted independance, but not through violence)

As long as you don't go around with road flares strapped to you I think you'll be alright. :D

I think pretty much anyone who disagrees with anything the US government does is condiered a terrorist at the moment, so that would make me a terrorist too.

Agreed. I'm afraid to say anything negative towards the government because of the "Patriot" Act. It's like during the cold war when ANYONE who said anything against the government was a communist. On a side note, if it weren't for human nature communism would work very well. But people always want more power.

I just love the fact that the government of America sees itself as the police force of the world, as well as the judge, jury and executioner

Well, I'm 1/4 Jewish ..

I'm not sure where that puts me but it's probably not good .. :(

OK, enough with the anti-america statements :)

(I get hate mail for promoting communism by the way.. thought you might laugh at that)

Oh, and communism works on the principle that labour is the main form of income, however it is not, imagination is, so therefore, in a society where everything is there, imagination stagnates, and no-one gets anywhere, and meanwhile, the state is siphoning money away from industries that work, and subsidising industries that aren't. In short, not great... however, would have worked in a 18th/19th century enviroment.

But that doesn't mean I don't love it :P

Whey! Me too. Glad I don't live in the US: "Oooh, point and stare at the un-American."
Forgive my ignorance: what's the Patriot Act?

I'm glad I don't live anywhere else but the US. I don't point and stare at "unamericans" lol and I don't go insulting people from other countries saying "I am sure glad I don't live in your country!" either.

Yea....Lenin thought the same thing to and look at Russias economy. But your right it might have worked back then...but the world changes and in order to surive you must change with it.Thats why communism is going to die.

thanks again , same here. America bashing from people outside of the US who have no idea what its like and who bash unprovoked is annoying. Once again America bashers have started first , noone has bashed their countries.

Badger (nice tone , for internet purposes) You wouldnt be considered a terrorist by anyone , if only for the SIMPLE fact that there is way too much information for them to process. There are many more complicated factors of course , but you havent done anything active and so youre not worth the time. As long as you dont do anything you wont get in trouble , as hard a concept as that is to grasp for some (not you , general statement there lol). Also communism is great on paper , bad in practice , man will always exploit for riches and power.

Others- America is not in McCarthyism , as much as you wish it was so you could bitch away. Youre an idiot to think that anyone will even notice you stating your opinion against the coutnry. That opinion is fine , healthy , and needed. But when you get cocky and hateful like this it gets a little dumber everytime

Communism just doesn't seem to work. Lets look by example: the late- USSR, China, Cuba, North Korea.. not the great Utopian societies promised mankind, in the end only the one in control gets the goods and people living in poverty.

Most American professors who support communism will ramble on drooling inside their craniums about the most perfect communist governments that ever existed, some North American indian communites. Ok reminese all you want but we are not going back to living in tepees and using arrows for hunting food.

I don't understand the draw to Communism. The only way to get it to work is to take humans out of the equation. Yet the idea is continually romanced.

I kinda think the IRA is doing the right thing but in a wrong way.Because thats your part of the country and you guys deserve it back.

Read my actual post, thats what I said :P (@ alethem or whatever his name is :P)

My draw to it is the imagery and the revolutionary spirit :)

Because of outside interventionists meddling in other countries' affairs because it suits their own ends.

Well, not JUST that, but it's a monumental factor. Nah folks, Social Democrats are the way to go (I don't know if there's a party like that in Britain... But if they're anything like the people selling Socialist Worker, then I may as well give up)

No matter what any of you say America is the greatest country in the world. We have the greatest people, the greatest sports teams, the greatest singers, the greatest industries, the greatest gross economy, the best mass produced beer, the greatest technology developers, the greatest everything basically. Hell, the whole world needs us (well, maybe not Sweden, but that's alright, Swede's are so neutral, it's hard to tell if their good or bad) - Be careful, cause in bad times we're owed. We do great things for the world. We hate to see people suffer, even if that is a weakness, it is still an honorable one. As for those of you who live in America and hate America, that's okay, that is what makes America great... You can live in it and still hate it without being persecuted. Although in my opinion you should go live in Iraq and Russia, and go see what poverty or limited opportunities are like... Then you'd see how naive and stupid your being... This is just my biased, honest and strong opion.

dfsilent, these are opinions, not counter-points.

I think that might be over stepping it a little. We don't have the best everything. But we are the worlds most powerful country. You got the second sentence wrong, but everything else is true.

Problem with many Americans: They consider themselves to be of the greatest country in the world when the realitiy is that there IS NO greatest country in the world.

Problem with those who bash Americans: They assume that they can do a better job being the the most powerful country, they assume that the right way to do things is blatantly obvious when in reality if it was so obvious then it would have already been done. Some are jelouse, some are just ignorant, some are just plain stupid, some have been mislead.

Just my opinion.

Logical reasoning will not be tolerated in an Anti-US thread! :banzor:

;) :P :D

I have to throw out there that pretty much every country believes its the best. Thats not an American phenomenon.
Also dfsilent said that it was just his opinion. No problems with that.
And the fact that so many people hate the Patriot Act is good to know. We need people like that to make sure it isn't widely abused and so that it doesn't start a slippery-slope situation. But at the moment the country isn't going to pot or anything.

I guess I should have said that Americans are the most vocal about them being the best country.

I'll probably have to give you that. In the Western world at least.
It mostly ties into the fact that there is such a style to American life and culture that is different to most of the world. And when so many people share something like that they become proud of it.
Hell, I don't know of any place I'd rather be than the ol' US.

I might agree with you to a few outspoken individuals. But lets take this board as a small sample. To date only 2 or 3 people have said "USA is the best!!" , and they have only said it after the US has been verbally attacked by ignorant childeren. USA has always been verbally attacked first on these forums , by many many people who if anyone tries to argue back just fade away and never say anything else. As a matter of fact I dont see many public speaking people , people of reputation and fame saying USA is the best , they may support their country and support various programs and policies , but they do not say or suggest that USA is the best ever.

mrBadger, I wouldn't worry about being labled a terrorist. The last supposed terrorists that the U.S. pursued (who actually lived about 15 minutes from me) all attended Al Qaida training camps in Afghanistan. Also, your not a member of any Islamic groups, nor are you of Arab descent. Nothing to worry about ;)

This is exactly true, there are few Americans that actually go around saying "USA IS THE BEST!!!" Those that do say that however are always very pushy and ready to flame anyone who disagrees. Unfortunatly alot of American bashers often take those few who say stuff like that to be the norm. That is another problem.

Those Americans who go around saying they are the best are actually doing alot of harm towards their own country. People begin to hate Americans because of what they say.

On the other hand its also just as much the US bashers fault since they often just don't seem to think or realize that it is actually a very small minority of Americans that go around saying "US ROCKS!!! EVERYONE ELSE SUCKS!!!!"

agreed sir , being reasonable is soo refreshing isnt it :)

Listen, I didn't mean to hurt feelings, but I think everyone should love their country and hey, why not think it is the best. Lance Armstrong blatantly says he'll win another Tour De France. Now you may say that's cocky, but isn't that okay? Doesn't that show a divine loving will? I think it does. If you live in England and think England is the best country in the world I say goodluck and amen! (still not as good as USA though)

Its certainly ok to love your country and to express it. Its just that Americans have this reputation of going over the edge with it.

Keep in mind that its just a reputation. It doesn't necessarily reflect reality.

And no I don't think you went over the edge. :)

Somone said we have the best mass-produced beer?............

The person who said that ovbiously doesnt drink.

90% of the the mass produced beers in the USA taste like pisswater.
