My mouse cursor seems to, now and then, for no appreciable reason, sit there and jiggle around...

Any ideas? I'm using an A4 Tech mouse, which I think is what is generally referred to as "Generic". That, or "Shite".

It's really irritating for games like Blue Shift, where I end up staring at the floor or the sky.

Anybody?

It is most likely the surface you are using the optical mouse on... I've had the same problem with all kinds of optical mice (on different computers... I didn't go buy tons of mice trying to fix that problem)... generic and expensive.

Yeah, i know it's stupid and 'technically' you don't need one, but a crappy cloth covered mouse mat (u know the cheapo blue ones) are the best for optical mice. It keeps the optical mouse movements completely smooth.

Alot of surfaces can create a weird kind of reflection feedback, which can make your optical mouse unresponsive, and a little erratic... as seems to be your case.

Either that, or a restart of your system more than every three weeks (my other problem) should solve it.

I had that microsoft mouse called like explorer that had like 4 buttons or what ever. It was the gray one in the first group of optical mice. It started acting up and like when screwing up when i played games or just not moving on my desktop. I would be like in the middle of playing CS in like CQB and all of a sudden the mouse would screw up and it would point my FOV all the way up and spin me around like atop. It was really annoying and I had to trash the mouse.

when my mouse cursor moves around on its own there is usually one of my cats hairs under the mouse by the light sensor. might wanna check that.

Well, I have been using the mouse on a multicoloured, textured wood desk...

And Xtasy0, thanks. I checked under the thing and, guess what? Little piece of curly fluff in the emitter.

And to pHATE: I turn my system off every night.:E

Thanks, dudes.

LOL my system makes so much noise there's no way I could keep it up at night. :)

I think it's just a waste of power and too much of an increase in your electric bill to keep it on all night. Also (this has no physical evidence with it just my opinion) I think it's good for your comp to cool down sometime. Running at 90-100F 24/7 has to hurt it. I think it would prolong the life of your parts too.

Actually studies sugest that the initial heating up and cooling down periods do the most damage... due to the expansion and contraction of the parts.

Leaving a system on permanently does little to no damage. Hey it's not liek servers are dropping like flies cause they are on permanently huh?

And as for the electricity bill thing... if you turn monitor and speakers off it uses hardley any power. Not so much that i've noticed an increase in my electrcity bills anyway.
