The reason is that an unnamed 10-year-old girl from South East England was told by the game, during its Body Mass Index test, that she was "fat." (Wii Fit actually puts users into a variety of categories, the two heaviest of which are "overweight" and "obese.")

The stepfather of the girl, who didn't want to be named for her sake, said, "She is a perfectly healthy, 4ft 9in tall 10-year-old who swims, dances, and weighs only six stone. She is solidly built but not fat. She was devastated to be called fat and we had to work hard to convince her she isn't."

The paper then enlisted the opinion of Tam Fry, a spokesperson for the National Obesity Forum, who called for a ban on kids playing the game, presumably meaning she wanted to see it brandishing an 18 age gate sticker. She said, "I am absolutely aghast that children are being told they are fat?A child's BMI can change every month and it is perfectly possible for a child to be stocky, yet still very fit. I would be very concerned if children were using this game and I believe it should carry a warning for parents."

CAN SOMEBODY THINK ON THE CHILDRENS!!

Maybe they tried to make the game controversial and popular to compete with GTAIV?

heh

Tell the kids to get the hell off the video games, and go outside, so the other kids can call her fat then.

Maybe if your daughter wasn't a FATASS it wouldn't be an issue :hmph:

one thing that people seem to rarely take into account is things like bone thickness etc. I mean, I've seen people with a head twice the size of mine and they aren't fat. There are just too many body types to consider someone as fat just by their weight/age/height.

I'll bet midgets and people missing limbs really throw the game for a loop.

I will take this opportunity to advertise my new product, the skin-e-stick. The one and only tool you'll need to stay fit and attractive. Simply depress on your tongue until all your worries go rushing by... easy as pie! But don't eat pie, because that will make you fat.

The body mass index (BMI), or Quetelet index, is a statistical measure of the weight of a person scaled according to height. As such, it is useful as a population measure only, and is not appropriate for diagnosing individuals. It was invented between 1830 and 1850 by the Belgian polymath Adolphe Quetelet during the course of developing "social physics"

It would be really awesome if the game outright mocked you for being a fatwit.

isn't the entire point of the game to get in shape?

no sense in it lying to you. And **** kids, if they cant take it, they deserve to be fat.

What a friendly group of people you are.

Fat people are thick. They should be able to take it.

The problem is BMI isn't an accurate/reliable way to gauge fatness. I've read before that if you took a professional athlete like a basketball player or boxer, etc., and judged them just by their BMI, they would be considered obese.

ya right FATTIE!!!!

moral outrage is so stupid ..it's not like it said

"You're fat, but not too worry at least you'll learn to give great head"

..ok, then I can see moral outrage

I knew before I even opened the Link to gamespot that it was bound to be some bullshit report from the Daily Mail.......:|

6 stone? Wha...?

Anyway, I'd like to see her picture before I make judgement.

Of course, my judgement may not be so kind, as all the girls I see here are around 150~160 cms (that's in my age groupo, btw) and weigh around 40 kg. Plus-minus 5kg.

I just put her height and weight (6 stone = 84 pounds) into two different website BMI calculators, and her BMI is 18.2. If you just go by the BMI, according to the sites it means she has a normal weight for a child, not fat...

LIES!

i am the biggest nerd ever because all i can think of when i see the name "tam fry" is river tam and kaylee frye

I think french fries. in b4 fatty american, etc.

by the way, how much is a goddamn "stone".

Food isn't suited for children. It makes them fat!

It's great that the game told her the truth. What's even more fabulous is that the fat ass bitch might do something about her weight instead of doing the truffle shuffle in front of her Wii, eating bon bons, and drinking cat urine.

The girl is too fat for her panties/bloomers and is not a gymnastics queen. She needs to get over it.

Besides, it's just a game. If I were to play a game like Brain Age and it told me I was borderline retarded, I could care less because it's just a game. Srsly, people complain too much over the most trivial of things. :hmph:

What if people in developed countries really had something to complain about such as famine or plague?

Exactly. Brain Training tells me I'm stupid, quite a lot. I don't however suddenly believe I am and start whining and insisting the game shouldn't be sold cus it was mean to me. If she's actually being upset by a game then she has more issues than Wii Fit can solve. Or maybe she is just fat.

This is nuts... people are overprotecting children so much that when they grow up and get into the world they won't know how to live... it's just sad to see people make that mistake.

There should be a law that certain people shouldn't be able to have kids. :/

Yeah, that's why they killed Mr. Rogers, he was making kids feel too good about themselves.

Hell will truely freeze over if something as non-threatening as Wii Fit gets branded with the AO (adults only) rating.

This peripheral is not fit for children.

get it? not fit? Oh yeah.
