Revolution, it isn't silly :p
Shit, spelt flying wrong :p can a mod fix it please?

Wiiiiiii!

I love the new name now and there is nothing you can do about it because unless Nintendo decide to go back on the whole decision, you are stuck with it.

I would have to vote for the Rev. I mean come on Wii? Can you imagine little kids hanging off of their mother saying, "Come on mom! Please can I just have this Wii! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I WILL DO ANYTHING FOR A WII!
I just don't know :|

I don't like either of them. Revolution is not a good name and neither is the Wii thing.

what....the f-ck....is Wii? I said who gives a flying F-UCK!!!

You're posting on a site that pretty much thrives off computer gaming and you don't know what a Revolution/Wii is? You sir, are an idiot.

In other news, Revolution is the 5th home console from Nintendo. And recently they changed the name to Nintendo Wii to much laughter. Although some people are beginning to accept the name now and there is a pretty even divide.

I dont rreally care, the only reason im here is because my Counter Strike Game is ****ed up, i could care less about this thread or what Wii is =)

Then don't post.

I'd rather have Wii than Revolution. It's funner. And more fun.

Well go post in the CS forum and **** off here. Especially if you don't care about the topic anyway.

Wii! I like it and i DONT think its silly.

woah uhhh...i didnt actually think i would get anyone mad? And thank you for telling me what this whole thing was about.

Wii. I like the revolution and think it's fitting, but Wii is very symbolic and has so many meanings attached.

Despite it probably being fake :p

PlayStation Thwii?

I voted Wii.
I like the new name. Definately a change. And i like change sometimes. And this is one of those times :p

They should have just called it the 'Nintendo Throbbing Hard Cock' because either way they are both about as embarassing

Wii is the worst name for a console. Ever. Whoever came up with it is a total retard (wiitard?).

lol...Wiitard :cheese:

I don't really care about the name of the console, it's not like the gameplay is suddenly going to altar just because a bunch of kids would sit behind the Teacher's Lounge at Recess and laugh at the way it's pronounced.

Frankly, I woudn't care if Sony changed the name of the Playstaion 3 to "Piece of shit box that's made of shit and if you want to play it the controllers are smelly wet peices of shitty shit."

Or the xBox 360 "This is actually a bomb please avoid me kthx"

Wait, I guess I woudn't play the 360 worrying it was a bomb! D:

I honestly prefer Wii to Revolution. Revolution sounds kind of cocky and over-done.

They should go back to there first name..
Nintendo
Entertainment
System

The New Nintendo. Just call it Nintendo again....

From a marketing standpoint, especially since one of thier biggest goals is to attract non gamers, it is actually quite a good name. As gamers, we already know what is interesting about the system, so the name doesn't really matter to us. However, for a non-gamer, they already hear about Nintendos and playstations and xboxes all the time and they aren't interested, but if they hear Wii they will think "Wait a minute, whats that?"(It might even be because they thought of the same things that make some of us not like the name, but still, they're interested) All Nintendo needs to do from there is direct their marketing in the right way(The community aspect of the Wii name is one thing that could draw non-gamers, and also showing the motion sensing capabilities instead of normal games), and then they don't need to worry about Sony and MS seducing people with fancy graphics because they will be building their own new player base.

Good name.

I was reading somewhere recently that usually the game machines with the worst names do well, just look at the Playstation and XBox and Gameboy and Atari 2600--stupid stupid names and yet they own the marketplace (or did at least). This is while machines with the cool names like Dreamcast and Inellivision and Saturn and Master System all go tits up (in terms of their relationship to their competition).

Wii is a decidedly strange name, but one that everyone is talking about and it might just have what it takes to go further than the boring and unimaginative iteration names that Sony and MS (<--sort of) have been going with. Still, a name doesn't make or break a console--content does--and we will see what appears on this remarkable new system later this year!

It would seem smarter to me to market it as the Wii in Japan since the characters and pronunciation make sense to them. In the rest of the world it should stay the Revolution because that makes sense to us. Famicom/NES--did anyone care? No. And it still rules. We'll see I guess....

I agree with some of the previous posters.

I would have loved to see them call this new console the NES or NES2......something along those lines. And the name Revolution definitly is a bit cocky for a final name.....it's only a Revolution if the consumers say it is and accept it as one.

I personally don't care about the name. I just want the console to kick ass, but in most cases....the console's name should cause some kind of emotional response. I think that the fact we're all sitting here discussing this shows that Nintendo has done their job. Go Wii.

:O and they've even got a site ;)

http://www.wii.gov.in/ :O

On a more serious note, as much as i love nintendo and have done for many years ... WII ...... as if, revoultion ftw. I cannot believe they've managed to f*ck it up for me before release :( it's a real turn off ** Sniffs **

I just can't see how changing the name to "Wii" will help to attract new gamers. If Nintendo wants to attract a larger, more adult-oriented non-gaming audience, why name the new system something as childish as "Wii"??

If anything, it'll have the opposite effect and be less appealing because of the name. At least with "Revolution" as the name, the system sounded like it was state-of-the-art. It was a name that sounded respectful and professional. It sounded like you were making a good investment.

The new system looked so simple, yet classy at the same time. With "Wii" as the name of this thing, it loses some of its luster.

It's not going to be called Wii. Mark my words.

There's a tiny chance it may be called Wii, and if it is, I will absolutely not buy the system because of how gay that is.
