Like wtf why has this not been posted before here!?!??!
If it has then sorry, but I didn't see it, and that means others may not have.

I'll tell you the truth, until last night at around 11pm GMT I was a wii skeptic. I couldn't help but think, its just a gamecube with a stupid controller.

Then I saw this.

WATCH!

Was that all real ingame footage ? If so, hot damn, I want the Wii bad.

It's a launch title right? Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Still haven't seen the link but first : it's from E3 , we already seen footage form LGC and it was very short from impressive.

Ok , 1:30 in the trailer. I don't understand what's the fuss about. Looks bad. Clsoing the player.

N00b.

I should also point out that the fov is way too small. Feels like halo, perhaps worse.

Probably something to do with the Wii controller Brick.

I really want a Wii now :)

Yeah, seen this trailer. Not sure if it's all in-game. In-engine, yeah, but the movements don't match up to actual in-game footage I've seen elsewhere. For example, my prime complaint/skepticism of this and Metroid 3 - rotating the camera looks slow and awkward. It seems as though you have to shift the crosshair to the edge of the screen to look that way, and in this trailer he's often looking around without doing this, which makes the movement look far more natural than it actually would be. Look when he turns to shoot the TV, no way could you replicate that in the game :p

Also, the sword fights are still looking pretty dodgy from other footage...

Anyway, looking forward to seeing how this turns out, atleast ^_^

Edit - This new trailer looks far more accurate, and still looks damn fun (I like the guy in the first trailer better though :D) - http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1607593161514056932&q=red+steel+GC+2006+Trailer

Heavy scripted, aka not actual gameplay, seemed rather cgi at times. Compared to the recent screenshots I'd say it's probably running on a computer at high res and AA and then scaled down.

Why would you run it at high-res then scale it down? That's just nonsense.

Moving with the analogue stick and using the Wiimote would seem weird to me.

I dunno, I think it would work fine.

Yunno, you probably dont have to move the cursor all the way to the edge of the screen to turn. I imagine theres a circle in the middle of the screen that you can move your aim around in, without actually turning your character, and then if you move it out of that circle it turns your character,

I think I prefer it that way

I think an option in some games like this would be good. I prefer the PC system and am used to it. I'd be able to use the other system, but I think it's aimed more at people who haven't played FPS' on the PC ever. I don't mind either way, I'll adapt.

Wow nice I can't wait to run home and play with my wii !!!

I think too many people are being over-critical with Red Steel. I won't pass judgement on any controls or the like until I've played it.

Hopefully, whatever turns out to poorly executed or cumbersome etc. can be refined for upcoming titles. This is a new perspective on gaming - expect teething issues.

I honestly don't think it looks that great.

Also, Wii trailers would be a helluva lot cooler if they didn't SHOW PEOPLE PLAYING IT. And do you actually have to retract back to avoid gun fire?

Is it an on-rails shooter or is he actually moving around as well? Either way the sword action looks awesome.

I want wII,

AFTER seeing this trailer, Oh yeah, Wii must buy.

You move around using the smaller Nunchuku attachment. It's got that little button to crouch and everything.

This I will definately pick up. Ffs I don't know which game I'm going to play first. Maybe pong or something...

I still don't like the way turning is handled in the game - aiming to the extremes of the screen to look around makes it impossible to track a target that moves out of your los in a smooth motion. It's now a case of jerk the screen into position aim and fire, jerk the screen aim and fire ......

..... which is why much of the gameplay footage of Red Steel looks awkward and clumsy. I'll wait for a few reviews first.

Well at E3, they basically had it where there were canned animations for the sword battles (it wasn't free form sword battles but you swing one way and it plays an animation or whatever)... Everyone said it sucked cause it didn't feel like you were sword fighting cause you kept doing the same things over and over.

They took all that feedback and supposedly it is now freeform sword battles... We should know soon enough if people liked it or not :) I hope they do!

It looks like it will be a cool game... I hope it delivers for the Wii and shows its potential ;)

One of the games that locked me into getting a Wii.

A German website got an interview with the Red Steel people:

Yeah, good news. The german online mag Nintendo-Lan.de was able to speak with Ubisoft on GC in Leipzig, and they asked questions which could be posted per email before. So I send them 2 questions and they were both answered. I’ll translate it into english for you. Here we go.

——————————————————————————–

Mordrag (thats me): Hi, in your interview with ubisoft you could ask how the swordfighting is going to work now, because it was announced to be redesigned. So that the swordmoves aren’t predetermined any more but are converted 1:1.

N-LAN: That’s the case indeed. A developer has confirmed that the control scheme will be completely redesigned so that the controller moves are converted into the game precisely. Besides the controller sensitivity will be completely adjustable in the final version. And the graphics were improved very well since E3, now the atmosphere is much more darklier and thrilling. But that’s not all, there will be even more improvements on the graphics side.

Mordrag: Furthermore you could ask Ubisoft if there are any loading times in Red Steel or in other games on the Wii.

N-LAN: In Red Steel there will be no loading times at all because of smart streaming techniques. How it’s handled in other Wii games we can’t say at the moment. But it’s a fact that Mario Strikers Charged will have loading times similar to the Gamecube version of the game. We were not told if that will be changed in the future. But we’re sure that it will work like on the Gamecube. And as you know the loading times on Gamecube - if they have existed at all - actually were not a big deal.

Definitely looking better than before.

As for the "look" controls, I think they should go with a dead-zone method. As long as you aim within a box and/or circle on the screen, you don't rotate the camera. Using an RTS-style rotation is just awkward, and especially stupid for a shooter.

To me it looks like I'll be buying a Wii when it's released. The only problem is how do I explain to my family the reasons for looking like a complete tit with the controller whenever I play?

Omg, munro, you're on a fuggin posting frenzy, aren't yew?

Oh, and I hear (previews from most magazines) that Red Steel sucks...

Tell them it's because the God Wiiweh demands it.

Am I the only one who thinks it is similar to Time Crisis? You know, when you kill the baddies and then the camera rotates and heads in another direction?

DAMN that was tight! But i wonder if its really a "free fps" it seems like the steps are pre made and that you stop, you aim an shot, when everyone is killed, it moves on (you dont control where you go) etc. Is it that way? If it is it sux.

On rails? No, you move using the smaller controller. Read the thread! ;)

Looks alright...

I must be the only one really not interested in the Wii at all.
The controller just seems really weird... having two controllers to play Red Steel seems a bit awkward to me.

I like the idea, just not the way Red Steal seems to have used the controllers.

As long as Metroid 3 is as good as the others i'll be happy.
