Wii>Xbox360 total sales

Ouch. That didn't take long. Can't believe that Nintendo are a bigger company than Honda.

Shows that graphics ain't everything.

IMHO, Wii is still really a gimmick.

People are buying it because it's

A) From Nintendo
B) It's cheap
C) It's unique

You will notice that I didn't say anything about good games. How many people on here bought a Wii and still actively use it? Is there anything new or are you just replaying Zelda over and over? Or are you inviting your buddies over to play Wii sports?

I see absolutely no compelling reason for me to get a Wii. There is no game that screams "This could only be done on a Wii!" So far, they are all GameCube ports, or graphically inferior versions of games from other consoles, with Wii controls tacked on.

Sure, it's sold a lot and it's reached mainstream love. However, in the long run will it last once people realize there are no good games for it?

Developers need to stop making the Wii their dumping ground and experiment grounds for games. They need to make a kick-ass game and give the Wii it's "Halo". A true system seller, of which there is none now, no matter how many consoles it's sold.

That's pretty impressive. Nice one Nintendo.

Though I do love my Wii, I have to agree with Iced_Eagle. There aren't any killer games out yet. Though they are hopefully on their way. Mario isn't too far off, neither is Metroid. And I cannot wait for Smash bros! Was playing melee ealier with some friends, still great fun!

Hence I'm waiting to buy a Wii. If I'm going to invest 250$, I better be able to play some cool games. :p

Oh I know, they don't have all the games that will entice most of the hard core gamers just yet. And you know it's the untapped market that they are penetrating that is getting them the majority of the sales. Which means even if they don't come out with a lot of awesome games just yet they will still get the sales because EVERYONE is interested in seeing what the Wii is about. Not the game selection. I'm sure there are still tons of people interesting who just have not seen a Wii in stock when they casually browse Best Buy or whatever. And then when they do get that solid game selection (line-up this Christmas is awesome) they will keep selling even more Wii's.

If I had some extra cash I'd buy a Wii. Even just for like 4 of the games that are out currently. This is not a virtual boy. lol

But seriously, those sales are insane.
Wii gets 10.57 million sales for just 8 months on the market.
Xbox360 has 10.51 million sales after 21 months...was ~10 million at Christmas 2006.
The Xbox360 has not been supply limited for a while now but the Wii has since release.

So true

Super Mario Galaxy.

End of "no games" discussion imo.

We'll see on the upcoming titles.

But so many of them just feel they could have been done on the Gamecube or any other console if you just change the controls.

The next Super Smash is a good example. It has support for both controllers. So pretty much the only step-up it has over the GameCube is slightly improved graphics.

However, when you have games like this being released and sold for your console, you have a real problem. No matter what people say, graphics DO matter...

*Edit* Also, you need to realize that you have a little over 10 million people who bought a $250 console. Not a big investment. On the other hand, you have almost 10 million people who bought a $400 console (at the old price). The fact that almost the same amount of people paid a lot more for the 360 is also something to take note. They had a lot bigger investment in the other console. It's not so much of a "This thing looks cool, let's get it!" like what people can do with the Wii at it's price point. People who bought the 360 really believed in it... Moreso than your grandma's who bought Wii's and don't care too much for it.

The whole point is that they don't want hardcore gamers. Nintendo will make their money on games like MySims, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Metroid etc, and band games that come out allowing you to play drums with the remote etc etc.

They've already outsold the 360 without "hardcore" gamers.

Metroid will own. I keep watching the preview channel and I'm getting pretty pumped to buy it.

And if Smash Bros. is online I think it could probably declared Nintendo's Halo

They've already outsold the 360 without "hardcore" gamers.

That was never going to be too difficult though, was it? From my own point of view, in every school I've been to, I've come across a total of four ''hardcore'' gamers, myself included as I'd say I'm pretty dedicated when it comes to gaming.

Not that I oppose Nintendo's direction as I think it's great that the games for the Wii so far have branched out to all different kinds of people.

Metroid is overrated. I like their old NES and GBA games but it went down after that.

They say Metroid is not a FPS but First Person Adventure. lol bunch of bull****...

they are SAME SHIT, SAME GENRE, SAME EVERYTHING

seriously, first person adventure? I guess FPS games like Halo and Perfect Dark are not adventure at all.

I respect Halo but to compare it to Metroid, one, they are very different games, two, Metroid is far supperior imo.

I don't see why this is news is a surprise to anybody, the Wii is for the casual gamer so it's bought by a larger chunk of the community, while the PS3 and 360 are more for core console gamers. The prices also have a lot to do with it

you are saying this just because metroid has history all the way back from SNES. today's metroid is nothing like metroid from old days.

I agree, I've never really played any of the old Metroids, but today's Metroids are generally snorefests if you ask me (See the Gamecube games)

You clearly haven't actually spent more than a few minutes with the Metroid Prime series, so please stop posting.
Just because I find metroid prime overrated means I didn't even spent few minutes with the game?

your logic sucks

I love it when nintendo is seriously trying to differentiate both prime and corruption from being FPS genre, just because they find metroid special. the whole first adventure adventure is bullshit. that can be said to any FPS games out there.

I declare the above post, S.S. Inarguable.

Congrats.

I love Metroid.
I love Wii even though I don't have one, but will get one soon for Metroid, Smash, and maybe Mario. Here's to more sales. /wineglass

Sure, my Wii hasn't got as much attention as it should... but when MP3, Super Smash Brothers and Super Mario Galaxy come out I should have plenty on my plate alongside buying games for the PC.

I've actually been thinking about selling my Wii, because I haven't touched it in months.

I know. It really sux having to spend more than 10 hours on a game.

WTF is this, the bag on Metroid thread. The comments I see in this thread are evidence, as has been mentioned, that you people hating on it haven't spent more than 5 minutes with the game. This game is widely regarded as being the BEST fps to ever grace a console.

On topic. Good for Nintendo. It's interesting what can happen when you put the time and effort into making something different. Further, their early analysis of the gaming market has been SPOT-ON...which to me is most impressive.

This should be evidence to developers now that if you want to make money, start working with Nintendo. There's a few 3rd party gems out there for the Wii, but there are also some stinkers where NO thought was put into utilizing the Wiis hardware to the fullest. That said...I think Nintendo did have to prove something to them with regards to user-base...after the N64 and GameCube failed to meet sales expectations.

"Tacked on...."

Every person who dislikes the Wii insists on chiming in with this phrase as if it proves any point OR makes any difference to the overall experience that the Wii provides.

Perhaps it's time to give the Wii some proper attention, rather than 10 or 15 minutes here and there to simply say for yourself OR plainly copy some website review, and refrain from "Tacking it on" to every point that's made.

It's also funny that people blatantly ignore the fact that Nintendo have managed to get straight into the market with their original intention - bring the fun and accessibility back into gaming. The one thing anyone who hates the Wii moan about constantly.

Agreed.

They're making a Mario Kart also. WITH online.

I think it comes out in January.

Sea wins the thread.

Nintendo have struck gold, just like they did with the DS. Unlike with the Gamecube, they've decided to create something unique and original instead of trying to compete with Sony / Microsoft on hardcore gamer soil.

The trouble with the GC was that by the time Nintendo started releasing their excellent first-party games, the console had already failed in terms of reputation and sales, so all they could do was make the most of a sinking ship. Once the Marios and Metroids had dried up the console was effectively removed from shelves worldwide.

However, the Wii has already succeeded, and this is before Nintendo release a plethora of great titles. Of course, right now the console doesn't have many great games. But imagine if you were a developer or a publisher, and you examined the Wii's position right now. There are a lot of gamers with the console, and not many system sellers. Would you rather develop something for the PS3, which means that your game will reach only a stunted audience and will likely be overshadowed by games such as MGS4, or the Wii, which is ripe for exploitation? For this reason I think that the Wii will have a barrage of wonderful games heading its way in about a year or two. It's proven itself, so now it can reap the rewards.

On a side note, this has already happened with the DS. It's outsold the PSP by loads, and therefore all the developers are making games for it instead. Plus, the graphics gap means that developers have to choose one or the other, so you don't get multi-platform releases. It's quite funny, because while the DS is getting some great third-part games like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden and the like, the PSP has turned into a sort of handheld-Gamecube, as the only decent games are Sony exclusives.

(I'm actually thinking of buying a PSP though. Mind you, the only games I'd buy are MGS: Portable Ops, MG:Ac!d, MG:Ac!d 2, MGS: digital comic book and the upcoming MGS2 DCB. You could say I'm a bit of a MGS fan. "SNAAAAKE!?")

I've actually been thinking about selling my Wii, because I haven't touched it in months.

HA HA. Do you even realize how funny that comment is?

Masturbation > Prostitution.

I am not really interested in any of the Wii games at all, yet I still feel like it would be fun to play.

Paper Mario would be my first title, assuming they are making one. I'd have to wait for a review of Metroid first, because I'm concerned about the controls.

Yes guys, I think my hardcore gaming days are over. I'm not sure what happened, but I think it was when I started making mods for games that I started to love that more. It does take away from the magic of the game when you look at everything like it's all just data and scripts and sound effects, especially when a part of the game you think, "I could have done that effect/sound/etc. better"

But I'm Okay with this because modding has replaced my insatiable desire to play games. It also saves me a ton of money. I still buy the very best of the best, and when I get around to it, I still play them and have a great time. As you may know from reading my other thread I own some of the better PC games available out there.

There was a time when I was much younger when I had to buy nearly every new good game. Not quite as bad as Asuka though. :p

So far I've done mods for Doom 3, Prey, Oblivion, and GTR 2, and am about to make some mods for FEAR, and Half-Life 2 eventually, just for myself. Good times.

I also sometimes am broken from the immersion when watching movies, because the blood looks too much like ketchup or whatever. I kind of regret seeing those special effect specials on TV where they show you how they do stuff because it doesn't seem realistic anymore. It's like the magician shows you how he does all of his magic tricks and now they are totally lame and do not capture your imagination anymore.

whatever. metroid titles from prime and so on are considered as FPS in my book, no matter how many of you fanboys trying to convince me that it isn't by telling all those gimmicks, bullshits, etc...

whatever floats your boat, but opinions are like asshole.

Developers need to stop making the Wii their dumping ground and experiment grounds for games. They need to make a kick-ass game and give the Wii it's "Halo". A true system seller, of which there is none now, no matter how many consoles it's sold.

So you don't want original games in the mainstream?

Metroid Prime has got as much in common with Zelda as it does with Halo.
I can't speak for Prime 3, but imo this is definately true of the original.

Bottom line: Nintendo has sold a shit-ton of Wiis, and managed to do so without any big-name titles on the shelves.
Everyone was expecting the sales to drop as soon as buyers noticed the lack of an AAA title. It didn't happen - and now there's two huge, beautiful AAA games in the shape of Prime 3 and Galaxy just around the corner, in time to stop those 10 million users chucking in their remotes.

God knows how well this thing will be selling once it's got a decent library of titles on the shelves.

I, for one, will buy my first console ever when good titles are released for the Wii.

Good for Nintendo. I had little faith in their console, but I was shown wrong.

Still not buying one, though. :) Largely for the reasons Iced mentioned.

I'm very tempted to pick up a Wii, especially now that MP3 is out. I'd have to find one first though. My brother and I would have a lot of fun with it. He has a few Gamecube games but without a gamecube. hehe
He would love to get back to playing Spiderman 2 for the web slinging.

Might have to look around on Wednesday.

I don't see how his stinks. It's quite positive. :p

Combine, you haven't so much as stated an opinion in this thread.

Stated as fact, as so many other people on these boards.
