The Wii's imminent WiiWare channel is set to bring downloadable small-scale titles to the Wii, similar to XBox Live Arcade and the Playstation counterpart. Despite the channel being aimed at indie developers, it has caught the imagination of some larger-scale developers such as Square-Enix and Hudson. Nintendo says that so far they have received proposals for over 100 WiiWare games and have several of their own in the pipeline.

One of the most ambitious titles so far announced is Final Fantasy: The Young King and the Promise Country, an original FF game from Square-Enix, set in the Crystal Chronicles storyline. Below are some amazing looking screenshots.

The game is set to retail at the low price of 1500 Wii Points which translates to:
  • 15 USD
  • 10.50 GBP
  • 15 EUR

Looking good, it will hopefully set the standard for WiiWare titles to come.

However, some sad news:

Considering the Wii has a rather small flash drive, how many titles will it be able to hold? For example, even though Crystal Chronicles on WiiWare is not going to be large, it might be difficult to have even ten games of that volume.

A lot of the games for WiiWare that have been submitted so far are smaller in size, so they're not gonna take up a ton of your drive. But the way that we look at it is, we really don't want people storing every single game they buy on their drive. When you buy a game, it's yours forever, so you can delete it, and go back and get it at any time you want.

Hopefully they'll change their mind like they did with USB keyboard support.

A cheap Final Fantasy game that isn't a remake of an existing title? Intriguing.

There is a missing 'd' in that title, right?

I suppose it could be a country where people make promises, rather than a country foretold to yadayada. Still seems like Engrish to me though.

One day I murder you all and lead you to Promise Country.

Great... now my brother is going to waste money on a console system he won't use after beating one game.

Simply because it's a stupid final fantasy game. Ugh.

He even bought that FPS final fantasy game. I mean what the hell, FPS?

The only really good Final Fantasy game was part 1.

Wait,..what? there was a FPS Final fantasy? Anyways this new one looks kinda queer honestly, but it would be interesting to see what some indie developers can come up with for wiiware.

Okay maybe it wasn't a first person shooter.

Third Person Shooter.

Dirge of Cerberus.

Spinoff Title. True Final Fantasy Games have to be JRPGS.

Ohh ok yea that game looked like utter shit, I like the series but if they keep making these dumbass spinoffs they'll ruin it.

So... a Final Fantasy game where you play as freakin toddlers?

Seriously, there's chibi/super-deformed character design, and then there's this. They look like 5 year olds..... with breasts. >_>

Anyway, was Crystal Chronicle even any good to begin with? It looked interesting, but I heard mixed things.

Sounds very fun and looks very cool. I certainly hope they work on the memory issue in the future though.
