your basing your assumptions on things that you do not know and are ultimately being biased

as far as i know you cant make anymods for halo 2 because its a console game, and as far as i know many many awesome mods are already being developed for half life 2. like pappy: revenge of shemp (i cant wait for that one!)

:-D

well there you go. many mods are already out for Halo and I expect the same for Halo 2.

And as for the 1.5 million preorders, it also says that was only the AMERICAN preorders, not any other countries.

Okay, it's become quite apparent that you don't know how many digits are in "1.5 million"... In one of your previous posts, you stated:

wait, isn't halo 2 coming out for pc? by the time halo 2 comes out it will almost have 200,000 preorders.

First off, 200,000 copies is only a fifth of a million. We're looking at 1,500,000 copies already preordered in the U.S., so when I asking about whether you were referring to the PC version, it was because you typo'd or miscounted in that last post.

Secondly, you're coming off as a jackass to most of the people in this thread. Not that this was a really important question in the first place, but it seems like you're attacking everyone who posts his own opinion. Please keep in mind that this whole thread is irrelevant to how many copies either game will sell, and we're all only posting our ideas or assumptions, not actual facts.

Halo 2 will sell more, despite the fact that Half-Life 2 will most likely be superior. THe simple fact of the matter is, the Halo subculture and hype are much more mainstream than that of Half-Life 2, and every male on th planet with an Xbox between the ages of 11 and 35 will go out and buy Halo 2 the nanosecond it hits shelves. If you've noticed, Halo 2 is advertised in movie theatres. Half Life 2 is not. It's not a question of gameplay, quality (not to say that Halo 2 won't be a fantastic game, I'm sure it will be), or even replay value, but of marketing.

I like to think like this: "I'll just play what I feel like and don't give a damn about what others buy."
It doesn't matter, both developers will get enough money and there will be enough players for both games. What did you expect, that one of the game universes would be completely unhabited, save yourself?(this goes out to the people like "Mithrandir no. 2")

Well since were all waiting for hl2, we might just have a little discussion because were bored hehe :)

Let's not forget that it is also coming out for xbox(2?).
So, in the end it might - if you combine the sales of pc and console.
haha
you said combine
ne wayz i think that hl2 will sell more over time
and since its coming out for xbox...its gonna pwn halo 2

Meh, Halo 2 looks fun, but it's no HL2. Halo's multiplayer is where the game really shined, otherwise, it was a bit trite.

I think the fact that Halo did so well is really a testament to how weak the Xbox's game library has been. Halo was not a great game by any stretch of the imagination. It was a pretty mediocre single player game with a derivative story, and multiplayer really didn't bring anything new to the table. It ranks below the Unreal series for me and I really don't like Unreal at all.

Anyhow, yeah Halo 2 will probably sell more in the immediate future, but in the long run, HalfLife 2 may just edge it out. The Xbox will be an all but dead system in the next 2 years. If history repeats itself, HL2's shelf life is going to extend past that.

Halo 2 will sell more just because of the sheer fact that more people own consoles then PCs,but that doesnt mean HL2 wont be a great game ;)

Touché. Tough business is this movie business. Maybe the fans should start an advertising campaign for Half-Life 2.

Shmozy: He most likely meant "computers that handle Half-Life 2 well".

OK! Tomorrow we all go to our local games stores with big signs reading "HALF-LIFE 2, YOU TWADS!". Who's with me?

No.

Halo 2 is in the console market (bigger), and HL2 is in the PC market (smaller, due to expense). Evidently, Halo 2 will sell more.

Agreed. Consoles will always be at the top until they intergrate.

I'm still pretty sure that HL has sold way more then Halo has. I believe that Halo sold around 4-5 million copies when HL is over 10 million copies. So to me....uh well DUH HL2 has a bigger fan base. Like I said before most of us PC gamers don't spend 100% of our time on forums, because we use our comp for gaming. But it's funny how I see so many of these console gamers on the PC....instead of playing console...oh thats right there is not much out for console...well let's just say X-Box.

I admite I'm jacked for POP2, MP 2, and GTA: SA looks decent.

But HL2 will rule all.

The community of computer gamers is much bigger than the xbox community, so Half-Life 2 will probably sell more.
