Will HalfLife2 work under Slackware 10.1?

hmm i really dont know if it would, but i'm sure there are some linux people here that could. Are you an experienced user, or have you just started to use this?

youl need a windows emulator, something called Wine will allow you to play most windows games under linux. theres another one called, erm, cant remember, i think it begins with C lol

be prepared to get frustrated if you have just began using linux ;)

Cedega, works good with Fedora Core 3. I think it does on Slackware too. Make sure your video card drivers are correctly installed, if you have an Nvidia Card and a 6xxx card then you are lucky and the game should be smooth, otherwise you might get lag. Run glxgears and if your fps is lower than 5000 then... I don't think it will be very playable.

Cool... thanks for the help... However, my partition table was a bit retarded, so I'm gonna try to get a new Hard Drive toinstall it on :(

Your best to have a dedicated hard drive for Linux and not share with windows

I can't even get steam to run on Knoppix 3.6 :)

yea, it has wine :p

I don't think wine works with Steam anymore with the new patches. You really have to get Cedega, the newer version.

Yes... But you can play alot of games, including WoW, all Steam games and alot of the new games. I don't know why but Diablo2 runs faster on Linux than it does on Windows.

Because Linux is better than windows! Not that I am running it right now, lol. I really want to, but I am pretty much forced into windows like many others.

Edit: You know what, now that I think about it, maybe I will run linux sometime soon. So all you need is something like wine to run most windows stuff? Now all I need is netzero for linux, hopefully they have it... and they have a sort of power point right? I guess I could... but what a pain though. I only have Fedore Core 2 right now, so I guess I'll get Core 3, or whatever is out right now if I do. Linux gives me a little too much power, lol... :sniper: . If only I could learn wtf I am doing so that I don't have to reinstall like umpteen times per day.

I'm not sure on that. I thought I could run HL1 games and such, but I got a write error because it's on an NTFS drive and Linux hates me :(

You definatly can't run a game installed on a Windows partition. Because, like you experienced it has to write on the drive but it can't write on NTFS partitions. So that's why you need Cedega to, first, run the install program, install Steam on your Ext3 Linux partition, and then to launch steam, and HL2.
