just wondering if ill be able to play dod if i buy the standard retail version?

Oh and im asuming that i will be able to play CS by buying HL2 retail?

not out yet, if u buy silver or gold, u will get it, if you boiught retail, tough luck

so if i buy retail i wont get any multiplayer just the single player? So basically i have to buy it over steam?

If you buy retail or any steam package of hl2 you will get cs:source.

If you buy the silver or gold hl2 package you'll get DOD: Source When Its released.

Unless they sell dod by itself, or have some other way of aquiring it, so far..Yes.

y didnt they charge money for downloading dod when it went retail last year?

Because the DoD MOD for Half-Life was still offered free as well and a published version in Retail for the mainstream, after it became so popular and they signed up with Valve. Now Valve did the work (DoD Team who works at Valve) so it is not a MOD but a Retail game.

If you help Valve out and buy through Steam you get the great deal when you buy Silver or Gold, which includes DoD Source in the package. If you buy Retail you do not get the Steam insentive (good game packages) but I'm sure they will offer DoD and CSS etc as their own Retail games.

That's why they don't allow you to 'upgrade' from the Retail HL2.

And getting to play CSS early was the insentive to buying the basic HL2/CSS package on steam rather than retail.

my sn is soochers1to7 msg me on aol because i have a lot more questions

so right when i buy the retail will i be able to install it and play cs or do i have to wait for it to come out?

I payed NZ$140 (US$100) for the collectors edition. Thats NZ$55 (US$40) more than I could have bought silver for. Is it so wrong of me to want to have an Official, proffessionally made disk, case, and box. I don't see why I should be made to pay about NZ$60 more than I would for any other game to get a singleplayer component, an multiplayer component, and a port of game that I bought years ago and is still essentially the same. The reason why I bought retail is because I'm going off to uni next year, and I want to take with me a proper disk and case, not some burnt DVD with Half-Life2 written on it marker pen like some hacked game. Also downloading off steam would take up half of my monthly download limit, and I would prefer to use the internet for other things as well.

So to first find out that I can't play HL2 without the disk in the drive after I have already registered my CD-key and can't take the game back, when all prior information stated that we would be just the same as steam buyers, and then not to have DoD:S when I am paying much more for less already, is just a little bit pissing off. Half-Life2 is a great game, and I haven't so far had any problems with it, but that and steam doesn't give Valve the right to screw us retail buyers over. I feel really cheated that we weren't told about these things before HL2 was released, and there are obviously thousands of other people who feel the same way.

Right now you can only buy DoD as part of package, but I suspect they make it available as a separate purchace as well. It's not out yet, so theres no hurry with that one.
