hi there...

I am going to buy a new computer soon, and surely i want to play hl2 with it.

so these are my hardware specs. :

1x AMD Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939 CPU
1x MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Edition, nForce3 Ultra Socket 939 Mainboard
1x Kingston ValueRAM 512MB DDR-DIMM PC320 DDR 400 RAM
1x NVIDIA TI 4200 (i know this is not very new, but i already have this one).

do you think hl2 will run good @ 1024x768?

i hope so :)

thanks
doni

No..... hl2 will explode into a fireball and disintegrate along with the box and your reciept so you will not be able to get a replacement copy as soon as you put it in that old and tired sort of a cpu more of a sub-standard palm that weighs a lot.....

btw... i am kidding

O h my god think about buying that PC its so slow you are going to play HL² in 800x600 on 16-bit and low details and you still have only 16fps.

What are you worrying about I have XP 2000+ 512 DDR-RAM and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and it will rund although I have OS Win 98.

Should think so, a new graphics card wouldn't hurt if you're determined to run it at 1024x768

so what is bad on this computer? i need facts, guys....

what graphic card should i choose? i don't want to spend more than 100euro on it...

thanks!

Gfx card is one of the most important parts of your PC, so you should really consider spending at least 200 euros on it. I would recommend a Radeon 9800 pro for that matter.

Oh and, shouldn't this thread be in the hardware forums?

That's a good computer, however your video card is a peice of crap.

Just thought I would make it clear - hehe

Try find a cheap ATI Radeon 9800pro 128 RAM and your PC should run HL2 just lovely :) I wouldn't go any lower than that though or it's probably not worth it. Once you've bought that think about getting another 512 stick of ram for the luxury of running it stutter free.. Also, try avioid value RAM, it's usually better to pay the bit extra and get something a bit more stable. But you never know, yours might work fine... good luck. edit: my bad, kingston value ram is alright :)

Well, the gfx card is ok to be a GeForce 4 series. I used to have a TI4600 and it was ok. Course it's nothing like a 9800 pro.

Yeah, get a 9800 PRO, caus your card isn't even a Direct X 9 card. I have a friend with a TI 4200, and he can run CS: S with everything on low, no AA, no AF and in DX8.

ok i searched for some cheap, but good looking cards. can you say what you mean about them, and which one you would take if you had to take one of them:

[1] Asus V9570/TD/128M, GeForce FX5700, 128MB, DVI >> 178 CHF
[2] Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR, DVI TV-out >> 295 CHF
[3] Asus EAX300/TD/128, Radeon X300, PCI-E, 128MB, TV, DVI >> 122 CHF
[4] HIS Excalibur Radeon X300SE, PCI-E, 128MB, Retail >> 114 CHF
[5] Sapphire Radeon RX600 Pro, PCI-E, 256MB, Bulk/Lite-Retail >> 170 CHF

how much does a "cheap" ati radeon 9800 cost? [2] here is 200 euro, and this is to much for me.....

what do you think about [5]?

thanks....

You probably will not find one for much less than €200. One piece of advice though. Do not buy a GeForce FX card.

Don't get a x300

x600, would be fine
9800pro, good

not sure about the 5700

dude, you are new, so I wont flame you, but there is a forum made just for questions like thiese.

doni, your mobo doesn't have a pci-e slot does it? x600 isn't agp. if you want a cheap card that will run hl2 well, look for 9600xt or 9800pro. don't know about europe, but www.pricewatch.com will list us vendors, some probably ship overseas (click "international sales" at the top of the page).
