Jello, people!

I recentely received my first pay check and am thinking about buying a normal video card(now I have a built-in peice of ka-ka). I want to plug in the Radeon 9600XT, but I'm not sure if my AGP slot is what is needed. The thing is the on the manufacturers web site it says that it supports AGP 4X so does the owner's manual. But what i am suspisios about is the the slot lacks the small barrier that is usually in this type of slots.

So will my Radeom 9600XT will fit or not?


And don't tell me that it's toooo good for my comp, because I plan on buying a new mobo and other stuff.

As far as I know, there are no different types of AGP slots. I've never heard of any, anyway. Since your board only supports AGP 4x, Radeon won't be perfoming at full speed.

I'm aware that it will not run at its full capacity.

There are 3 types of AGP slots: AGP version 1 the supports AGP 1X and 2X; AGP versoin 2 that supports AGP 2X and 4X and AGP version 3 that supports 4X and 8X.

Hmm yeah but I mean compatibility... basically, any AGP card should fit any AGP slot (except when voltages differ)

Yep.
It will fit. Notice your board doesn't have any notches in the brown AGP slot (First one above the white PCI slots).

None, I believe they stopped the HL2 coupon for the Radeon 9600 a long time ago.

There is a verion of Asus' 9600XT that 'includes' HL2. There is also a version that doesn't.

I don't believe the Gigabyte or Powercolor cards includes HL2.

From what I know, only a few 9600XTs will include HL2. It's up to the manufacture to include the game but it costs them extra to do so. 10$ I think. hehe
