Will lost coasts HDR be deactivatable?

Lost Coast is a very highend tech demo, showing off Source. Low end users will not be able to play it, simple as that. The level is not in any way enjoyable without the proper equipment, so don't even bother downloading it if you don't have a 6800gt / x800 level cards.

lol, gtfo, they can still download it if they want and just turn HDR off, or turn it down (its proccessing power that really matters, a 1.8 or 2 gig with an x800 or 6800gt probably wouldnt cope aswell with HDR as a 3 or 3.2 gig with a 256meg 9800).. dev's wont be as stupid as to not give people HDR option's. silly Pesmerga :p

I hope Lost Coast does well as an add-on for HL2, as it will push the envelope for graphics along with Unreal 3.

Unfortunately, being someone who is still stuck in the 80s and 90s concerning enjoyability of shooters, I won't be one of its patrons. Sorry, I'm 32, and my heyday was playing Atari 8-bit then Amiga games. I jumped on the Doom 1/2 bandwagon like most other people, but got bored around this time last year, when I realised games were getting too realistic.

Buuut, if that floats your boat, then fine.

I think the more realistic fps get the better, makes for a more immersive experience. Cant wait to see what this add on will look like, i hope it blows my socks off. I just wish they would stop bloody arseing around and put the thing out, 2 weeks-4weeks-6weeks-8weeks make up your fecking minds.

Valve at one point said there was going to be a switch to turn Lost Coast from
High Quality to standard Quality. I'd expect that to still be in the plans.

Not just to give everyone else a chance to play LC, but also as a real world test
of that same switching ability that they will want to put out in DOD:S and Aftermath.

I'm not sure if they planned to let the lower spec machines even download it... if for no other reason than naive people tryiong to run it and saying "man... source runs slow as shit" when in reality it was designed for specs 4 generations after what they are running.

But regardless, i do expect to see another dropdown adjacent to the water quality dropdown:

- No HDR
- Low Quality HDR (PS2.0)
- High Quality HDR (PS3.0)
