I have just ordered an MSI 8800GT 512MB, my PSU is a 525 Hiper which Ive had for just under two years. Will this have enough power to run the 8800GT properly?

Yes. My 600w PSU can run an 8800GTS fine along with a E6320 and 2 Gigs of RAM.

I have checked my PSU and have one 6 pin molex connector, how do I know which rail this is running off?

Don't worry about which rail (if you have more than one +12V rail). Just plug the 6pin in the card and keep things with motors (hard drive / fans) on a different cable. Usually a non-issue.

The wattage should be fine but check to see if it outputs enough amps. Nvidia says that a 8800GT needs 26 amps, I know this first hand because my original power supply had more then enough watts but not enough amps to properly power my 8800GT when I first got it.

Is that 26A on each rail or combined?

the card came today I'll plug in the single 6pin molex I have and see how it goes

Their power recommendation is what they want you to have for your system + their card, expecting the worst. I didn't see them specify that they want you to have 26A on a single 12V rail. You could meet their recommendation that way but it would also work if you had 2 12V rails (maybe 20 amps per would be safe). Rails don't add up exactly fyi. 2x 18A would deliver maybe what a 30A would but with limitations.

Those 6-pin connectors can deliver a maximum of 75 watts. The power is from the +12v rail.
75 = 12 * Amps
75/12= Amps
6.25 Amps
So wouldn't this be correct?

And the PCI-Express slot can deliver up to another 75 watts to the card.

example: Hiper 530
18A and 17A for 360 watts max on the 12V rails
360 watts / 12volts = similar to a 30 Amp rail (best case)
How much the PSU can pull from both rails at once might vary between units.

Ok, gotya. Thanks for the maths lesson Asus.
