Will Orange Box get the attention it deserves...

I don't think Valve will really utilize EA's advertising as much as I think it should. Of course, I think that Valve should become a totally idependent company in itself and buy litte companies and become the gaming tycoon that it shouold be.

STEAM is a free advertising-space for it. And now when incredibly lot of games are avaible even more people use it.

Too bad Halo 3 releases just a few weeks before.

I'll think theyll manage it anyway.

But all eyes are on bioshock for the moment.

Consider that Valve might be one of the last software house to make games for the PS3, staying away from the evil and dreaded "Games For Windows" brand.
OK, you don't have the money that Microsoft is paying to bring you to the side of Vista/DX10/360 exclusive, but your market is wider, you have more chances to sell your product and we, as gamers, have a lot to gain.

Valve aren't making any games for the PS3. EA are doing the port for Valve.

However that may be, it's a good thing.
Talking about PC gaming I am confident that Valve games will not be "Vista only" for a long time. There's nothing worse than having good games locked on Vista for no technical reason other than commercial plans.

its only microsoft games that can become vista only....isnt it

Any games can be Vista only, if the developers want it so, which is generally a really bad idea because it decapitates their available market.

It's really a shame Half-Life 2: Episode 2 won't get the attention it truly deserves, and an average FPS like Halo gets glorified to unbeliability as if it were great despite being mediocre. Sifting through the video game section in myspace message boards, all the threads you'll see is glorifying Halo and none about Episode 2. :(

I personally dont think the episodic content really appeals to new players, as they probably havent played HL2, they mightent enjoy the idea of playing through the older HL2 to get the full story of the episodic games...thats just my 2 cents

Plus they're bitches. :D

There is an ad for HL2, kind of. Have you seen the ad before a programme come on, on sky one? With all the game title rolling past in the backround? One of them is HL2.

people "glorify" halo because of its multi player and thats it....the rest of it sux; heck even multi player can be boring at times. Also the 'games for windows' dont mean its vista only at all; its just saying its only for windows platforms(pc,360).

It's true at this moment, but Microsoft is clearly bashing its way to bring PC gaming to Vista/DX10. In my opinion there will be more and more "Vista only" games that could run on high-end XP/DX9 hardware without serious issues.
Halo 2 and Shadowrun as Vista-only titles is simply ridiculous!

I watched an interview with Gabe Newell on youtube where he said that Vista offered no features that made it seem like an appealing platform or benefitial in any way...From what I know of it I agree with him.
It just seems like a total resource hog..I have heard the argument a hundred times that this is how it goes...But, if you look at Linux, running Beryl 3d desktop, even with a fairly basic processor, graphics card and amount of memory it looks far nicer, has way more appealing features and way-out-performs Vista running with modern hardware/system resources...So you can imagine how it would run on a modern system...
Anyway..I heard elsewhere that directx10 hardware features are accessable through directx9, so it would seem that there is absolutely no good reason to upgrade to Vista...For me anyway.
As for Orange box getting the attention it deserves...I think it will. At the moment it is overshadowed by Crysis and Halo 3 and all that hype...Valve have built up a loyal fanbase that I think is about to get much bigger if their up-coming games are as good as they appear to be... :)

Not unless you get 1337 hacks, like I did for Halo 2.
I think that this type of hacking is justified...Releasing games for Vista only when they would run (better?) on XP is just plain wrong..Corporate bullying...
It would be like making people buy the Orange box when they wanted the Black one...just joking :D lol

I know about those hacks but we cannot think that every Vista only game will be easily hacked. I have no problem with the idea of moving ahead and updating old systems, but the matter is that someone is trying to *force* us to do so without valid technical reasons.
"Games For Windows"... "Microsoft Game Studios"... this is business, not technical innovation.
