Will Smith- Scientology similar to Bible

I'm amazed that people are actually interested in what an actor believes in.

Really, who gives a shit?

Don't know about anyone else but I personally am interested in people of general insanity. Such as Scientologists.

How are Scientologists worse than any other religious people?

Exactly. Why are people on this website so profoundly upset by religion?

Each to his own I say.

And what would make your opinions or beliefs on an afterlife any more valid than those of anybody else?

Did I say that, anywhere?

No I didn't think so.

Good day to you, sir.

I think Scientology is considered more off the wall, because it's recent.

We can remember the guy who made it up, and the facts haven't been distorted by centuries of history.

he isn't a scientologistian. and in any case, scientology isnt a religion as much as it's a way for celebrities to get in touch with very powerful people

It's worse because it's not actually a religion. It's a cult that takes advantage of people's stupidity.

I'm not seeing the difference.

*rimshot*

Let's just say that I can tolerate most other religions (islam not included). Scientology is nothing more than a scam to make the rich richer. At least some people of other religions try to help others.

I hate to say it but Will Smith, and the others posting are right. There's very little different about Scientology when compared with other organized religion - Christianity sounds just as whacked out when you step back and think about what exactly it is. Scientology hasn't had the following or time Christianity, Islam and other religions have had to gain their "legitimacy".

Again, how does this make it any different? Religion is mostly (read: almost entirely) used as a political device to move money and power nowadays. Until Scientologists are exterminating non-believers and putting dictators in power I'll let them continue to believe in whatever ridiculous Science Fiction god they want.

The other day, I realised Jesus was actually a Q.

Seriously, the evidence is all there!

I love you for referencing Star Trek <3

It's not really. I just have a grudge against Scientology because everything about it is phony. I seriously doubt a lot of it's members actually believe it's bullshit and are in it to reap the benefits. You can't even make good fiction about it! (Battlefield Earth)

I don't know why people frame their posts like this. Are we trying to drive Hubble out of existence? No. Nobody's trying to take down their space god, at least not forcefully. Scientologists are free to believe what they want. But that doesn't diminish a cult's ridiculousness, nor one's ability to criticize it.

I agree that Scientology is no more whacked out than most other religions. It's just more contemporary, rooted more in modern sci-fi than the fantastical magics of old. But I nonetheless hold a special contempt for it. It is the only religion I'm relatively familiar with that charges absurd amounts of money on a regular basis for its dimwit pseudoscience practices. At least church is free, you know? This should be smacking people as a scam the moment they're asked to open their wallets.

And probably moreso than any other faith today, the Scientology movement has become pretty adept at harassing its critics. It is not beneath the official Church of Scientology to engage in criminal behavior. You can't compare that to the work of a few Islamic or Christian radicals. They are more rabid, unified, and effective with their censorship advocacy. And shit like this? No excuse. Religions like Christianity and Islam were conceived in periods steeped in superstition and archaic practices, and in many respects can be argued as products of their history. But the inception of Scientology was well into the 20th century and it doesn't have the excuse of being thought up by mystical-thinking sand people from ages old.

Dance party!

It's ridiculous, sure, and I actually regret the tone of my previous post. I'm not saying it's wrong to criticize Scientology, I just think it gets blown out of proportion by the media. I actually don't disagree with you in any way really. I just wouldn't be too quick to shove aside comparison to other organized religions. Perhaps we could stand to learn a thing or two by comparing Islamofascists and Evangelicals to those heavily involved with Scientology. Again, looking back at my post I have no idea why I worded it how I did, I'm not trying to defend poor innocent Scientology or lump all religion into one, I just can't help but take special notice to how ridiculously similar the extremists of any religious belief are. If you lumped together the atrocities of the not-so-young far right Catholics, Protestants, Muslims etc, there's no way it would fit on even one or two wikipedia pages.
