will the antlion (-guard) be able to swim?

i came across this ^^^ screenshot for the 4523784th time and suddenly noticed the antlions were standing in the water.

do you think antlions and antlion guards will be able to swim?
i think they will.
it would be pretty cool if they could. and scary too; being chased by those aliens through water.

btw: in the pic the 'planks' that support the dock float above the water.


note: there's probably already a tread on this. i don't know. i used the search button and didn't find what i was looking for.

yah that screeny shows them in the water...interesting, but i think it would be physically impossible for those things to swim. I think they would just go in water a few feet deep or else they would drown.

In one of Mr. Newells interviews (I forget which one) he was asked a very similar question. I believe his reply was something along the lines of "Sure, there's no reason why various creatures can't swim, but from a tactical viewpoint, most prefer not too. A soldier would much rather stay on shore where he can use his weapons than be hindered by the viscosity of the water."

Once again it would appear that "it's a design decision, not a technical limitation"

Q: Can some types of creatures navigate through water by swimming/jumping in/jumping out?

A: Some creatures can, but most do not care to swim. While swimming across a river might be the shortest way to get somewhere, it's not necessary the best tactical choice. A soldier will choose to stay on land where he can use his weapons, move quickly, and find places to hide.

I think those little bugs that walk on water can only do it because they are so little.

EDIT: But then again, it's only a game. I know I'll be scared if I'm on a boat and I look over to the shore, see a few ant lions then all of a sudden they start running over the water.
