Will the graphics in the Console version be comparable to the PC Version?

I was thinking about just getting the X360 version of Episode 2. Main reason, is because my PC has been acting wierd as of late, and when I play, I want it to be a smooth experience with no crashing etc. So the main thing I was wondering, are the graphics in the X360 version comparable to the PC version?

Yes. You will get the best-looking version of OB with no issues.

Doug Lombardi: No, I mean right now the next-gen consoles are pretty close in terms of parity to where the PC is. In terms of horsepower and CPU and on the GPU side. As we move forward obviously those systems are going to be locked down and the technology's going to continue to evolve, but right now there's really a nice sweet spot just being able to deliver a very consistent experience across the different platforms.

Think about all the mods and extra shit you wont be able to download if you get it fo 360.

He didn't ask about the other benefits for getting OB for the PC (I agree with them all).

alot of systems can beat the xbox360 and the ps3 in raw power..

Sure. But would it really make a noticeable difference? Nope.

Like Doug said, in a few years PC hardware will eclipse console hardware, but for now you can get similar performance and graphics.

Ok, I saw the Lambardi quote too, but it's seriously bullshit. It might have all of the effects and textures, but my PC can run it at 1600x1200 with 8xAA, 16xAF with everything maxed and get 60FPS solid with V-Sync. No Xbox 360 game does that, period. It is absolutely incorrect to say the console versions will be the 'best looking versions.'

You're missing the point. I know that there are PC's out there that will rape the 360 and especially the PS3, but for most casual gamers, they won't notice a difference.

When he says "being able to deliver a very consistent experience across the different platforms", he was probably talking about the general public, not people like us that can recognise V-sync, frames per second differences, AA etc etc.

Well that's what I reckon anyway D: |:

But the Ob has been announced for months so people who want the PC version have had enough time to either deck out their PC with graphics cards etc, or just sit back and relax, so you'll only get problems if your the sort of person who never reads the recommendations or is too lazy to buy new equitment.

Exactly.

Honestly, I doubt the difference will be that noticeable between high-end PC graphics and normal console graphics. Valve has said stuff about the scalability of their particle system though, so the major differences should be there instead of textures.

Xbox360 maybe, PS3 should be pretty much the same as the PC. Ive struggled to find any graphics differences between a 360 game with the same games on a PC, not mine though as it still needs upgrading.

But yeah, comparisons will surely be made, but maybe the advanced lighting will be the difference, but i think framrates will be hardly noticeable for example. The 360 pushes out a fairly decent 60fps in MOST games. Anything higher is hardly noticeable to the human eye, lets face it.

The console versions of HL2 and EP1 will look better because they will have all thew graphics knobs like HDR.

PC will get them too? If they did it for console, why not go back an put it in the old games on PC? Why the hell wouldn't they make sure their most loyal part of the market isn't COMPLETELY satisfied with the game?

Valve are giving the console users a better looking Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One, but some where down the road Valve may perhaps give PC users the updates. Remember Gabe is a PC guy. I mean, why would they give console users all the awesome graphics exclusively to console users just to spite?

As far as Ep2 on the awesome gaming PC (Alienware/XPS/Custom) vs. Xbox 360 vs. PS3, there isn't a difference.

This will probably not happen, and it's a matter I'm kinda pissed about. It probably wouldn't take all that much effort to go in and make the changes, and then apply it through Steam updates.

If Valve can improve HL2 and EP1's graphics on the 360, why not PC? I think they said developing for 360 is similar to developing for PC. (Unlike the PS3; The UK division of EA is handling that. They're only behind a month because Valve has to ship the latest build across the Atlantic Ocean.)

I'm pretty sure Valve have said no upgrades for PC HL2 and EP1, for now. Maybe we'll see it as some sort of download on Steam in the future, like they did with the HD pack.

I really, really, REALLY, doubt there will be a noticeable difference between versions. None that will be noticeable to the general public, anyway.

I'm getting it for 360, btw.

But for the discriminating users, there definitely will be a difference.

Still go with PC I say, on 360, you can play. On computer you can do so much more, and in time maybe can fix or upgrade your computer.

I already got the PC version of the orange box free, so i have a extra 70 sitting in my bank, might as well spend it on something.

Whoops, I was responding to the last post about the 360 version, Sorry,

Dan from valve both gave us a orange box, many thanks to UseAbuse. End of story.

I just had the thought that maybe they are waiting for Episode Three before updating the others to avoid having to update them twice.

After the release of Episode 3 I foresee a wonderful shining package called: "The Complete Half-Life 2".
Fully updated ;)

I cant stand the HL2 alyx model anymore.

I hope they'll import ep1 alyx in hl2. (ep2 model wouldnt make much sense since shes wounded and all)

The EP1 Alyx model is more roughed up than the HL2 one. It's not much, but she has a few more cuts and shit.

The most noticeable change is a scar over her right eye.

Other than the wounds, has her model been upgraded again for Episode Two?

I hope they fixed Alyx's hands, it's very low poly.

They need to fix her smile. I hate looking at her in the last part, because that face she gives me... Not sure if it's a smile... but it scares me... It looks like the models are trying to stretch their mouth, rather than raise their cheeks.
