Now that IMO Half-Life 2 is near. Will there be a way to see how many hard copy's of HL2 are sold VS Steam copy's. I am very interested if there is a way to where we can see how many is sold.
I think it would be cool so see how many buy through steam or the store & to where we can see the numbers in a section here at halflife2.net?

Maybe you should email Valve asking how many copies have been bought once the game has been released.

Valve may announce those numbers, but that is not very likely. A more likely option is that when Vivendi releases their financial statement, they may have a small blurb about HL2 and how Steam affected the sales of the hard copy version of HL2.

Don't expect much info though.

Another option is to create a poll here at HL2.net when HL2 comes out.

I ment in a way everyone could see the results on a weekly post. I dont even know if its possible just asking. I think alot of people would be interested.

I'm sure Valve will release some numbers after a couple months, early on though...no one will really care, we'll be busy with the game!

That sounds like a cool idea, I imagine alot the fans of hl1 will be buying through steam and alot of the newbies will be buying a box copy because they most likely won't have steam if they havent played hl1.

one way to do it would be to find out who Valve's accountants are, and hold a gun to their head.. or perhaps bribe them for the numbers :p

HL2 sales numbers? I'd click on that link! i'd be very interested in seeing steam vs retailer sales stats. But i dunno if they'd release that info...

Half of all CZ sales were through Steam. I don't know whether that's half of the profit from Steam, or half of the sold copies.

CZ would have only cost 2-3 dollars cheaper than retail for me, so I decided to pay the few extra dollars and get a box and cd's because they're always nice to have. But for hl2 I'm probably gonna buy off steam because I know EB will sell out instantly and theres probably already 100 copies pre ordered from the only one in my area.

Hl2 isn't near, its 70+ days from now
Link? I say that anyone claiming anything about hl2 without providing a link is full of it.

Do I need to give a link? I think this site is more then enough

well only a few hundred thousand people have steam and they expect to sell 4 million + copies. The vast majority of sales will still be retail. But all those retail buyers will then have steam so Hl3 will probbaly sell alot more through steam.

The hardware survey shows almost 1 million unique id's.

I think if everything goes well for steam sales, they will release the numbers. Think about it. . . how are you supposed to sell your new digital content and delivery system without showing your prospective customers how well it works?

They will most likely just use it as marketing for the game, I don't really think that they will post on some forum and say the exact sale figures..

Most likely they will just say something like " Half-Life two has sold over 5 million copies in the first two weeks " or something like that.

Very good point indeed. Well I think this will be one of the biggest game release's of all time, I would like to see how many millions buy HL2.
