Does everyone think valve is going to tell us when half life 2 is bug free and sent to vivendi, or do you think there will be silence until it is in mass production? :naughty:

I'm going to put my money on dead silence from Valve.

The next sound you'll hear is Vivendi's going gold announcement followed by the shouts of joy from gamers around the world (and from VU stockholders).

anyone with any involvement in software development would most likely agree that the "bug free" status of a program doesn't ever exist.

It would be stupid for them to say that the game is "bug free" because then everyone would complain that first glitch they saw.

Im speaking from a satisfactory level to give to vivendi, you know what i mean

I just read that the game is done!!!!

At the G-Phoria awards show post party IGN.com says "At the post-event party, guests were able to sample a variety of videogames put on display by the likes of Activision, Sony, Konami, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Playable games included the final version of Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Counter Strike Source, E3 demos of Halo 2, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and God of War, among others."

The game is final done. :borg:

If the final version bit was to cover Half Life 2 and Counter Strike: Source, they would've put a nice 's' on the end and made version a plural. All the 'final version' pertains to is Doom 3.

The game is done. It has been done for a while. It just isn't bug-free and I'm sure some final changes are being made.

CS:S isn't though from what they have said.

Just to clear it up;

Vivendi is the mass-producing cd-copying firm for HL2 yeah?

So they chuck all the CD's and DVD's of hl2 out ready for retail yeah?

and if so, why do they check to make sure its gold? meaning they can copy the disk right or what? and why the hell's it take so long?!

It won't ever be bug free. I don't know why Gabe said 16 days till bug free he should have just said 16 days till release worthy.

The Half-Life 1 engine still has bugs after almost 6 years of patching.

Personally, I don't think valve will even tell us when the game is released. We will just open up steam one day and Half-Life 2 will be there! And we'll all think we just got it by accident and say, "I'M TEH PWNX0RZ!"

I think that they wont bother to tell us but it will slip out on a random forum or e-mail like all the Valve info usually does.

They won't tell us when it's gold, they won't tell us when it's released either. They will just hope we stumble upon it one day.

By bug free he means, no more bugs on there RC list, valves biggest problem is they expect to much intelligence from a community this size, and fall to jumpy noob overload.

There extremely busy if this is the last week till there next deadline, but once they RC they will play a short waiting game while vivendi make decisions, which is when they will begin the CSS beta, and hopefully be a little more vocal with emails/interviews again, and theres always a chance the first RC will be approved, time will tell, now we are getting so close to the end things are getting a little tight around here!

Valve won't say anything until they announce that HL2 has gone gold. They have DOD and TFC source to keep them busy for a while after the release of HL2 (unless they all take vacations after HL2's release like they said they would...)

I have a feeling that Valve's first RC will be awfully close to what VU is looking for, if not right on. Valve has been polishing the game for a while now, and I could only imagine some small changes being required for a new RC (mainly issues that might concern the game's ESRB rating, I assume). HL2 should be gold by the end of the month, unless some terrible thing happens to Valve or the game.

How many days till that deadline is met? You know..the 16 day thing?

Umm....i think its 4 or 3 days now until that August 5th RC date

He will come out and say, HL2 is ready for a Sept 30th release date!, and he will get stoned(killed by rocks you crackheads) o_O

And then we'll all cry and completly forget about HL2.

Seriously

The next bit of info we will get, is about CS:S beta being held... starting on the 5th , playing on the 10th.. i think they want us to take our minds of hl2 so they can finish it and release for sept..

Are you joking?

EVERY game tells the public when the game goes gold and HL2 will be no acception.

What will they be accepting?

Acception, exception whatever. I had been up five minutes.

Knowing Valve someone will email them some time in October asking about how the progress of HL2 is coming along, and they will say... oh it went gold about 2 weeks ago and you should be expecting it on shelves sometime within the next few weeks...

Keep quite and go buy Doom3!
:D

At this point, I doubt Valve will say a single thing until it's gold. (Other than small pieces of info, like about CS testing etc. )

I don't think they want to make the same mistake as they did last year and count their chickens before they hatch. They will wait and make SURE everything is where they want it to be before announcing anything major.

Silence until it's Gold I believe, then shipped shortly after. No point in filling us in on every little stage just making the waiting seem even longer, in my opinion.
