Will we be able to play the steam edition offline once we have all the content? I'm thinking of purchasing the gold edition via steam but im also disconnecting my self from the net entirely come november. Will the steam edition auth online before playing and will it still retrieve content over steam when its needed?

disconnecting when u got the game or when it hits 1st november?

if ur disconnecting on the 1st of nov ur most likely gonna have to reconnect to get the game ;p

HL2 needs Steam anyway IIRC, so if you can't play on steam then you can't play.

once i have the game of course... :) Im still debating as to wether to buy the CD edition or the steam edition and its the reason mentioned in my first posts thats stoppong me buying the steam edition just in case i cant play it offline once i have the game.

Im pretty confident there will be a (as with all mods/games currently on steam) "make this game playable offline" option for HL2.. I see no reason why it wouldnt... also Valve (Gabe newell actually) stated that although it might be needed initially, after the first week or so it wont be anymore.

Yes, you will be able to play Half-Life 2 offline if you buy it from Steam. But you can't just buy it and then disconnect. You have to wait for the credit card transaction to clear.

This is to stop people using a fake credit card number then just going offine.

EDIT: mind you, if you preorder then you should be fine. Did Condition Zero charge you before the game was activated?

Common, man, you gotta get the CD-version. I almost think it's taboo not to have a boxed version of a game you own.

...uhh, never mind these burned games in my book case... :E

But we're not sure they will delay Half-Life 2, are we?

I know both the steam and retail editions are going to be released on the same day regardless of a delay its just the fact that im begining to thoroughly dislike Vivendi...

I think I'm gonna wait with hating them until they actually delay it.
