In the HL2 videos you have heard the music in the background. When we finally get to play the game, will you play with the music on or off?

Definitely on for singleplayer. It'll add to the atmoshpere.

100% on, I loved the original HL soundtrack, the second seems to follow through with the same coolness as the first.

there were a couple new ones at this E3 (when he saves the buggy from falling off the cliff with the Manipulator, and when they show CS:Source) that made me wanna puke, but all the previous ones rocked.

depending on how annoying it gets, I'll play with it on although on low volume(it annoyed how loud it was in the E3 showing)

The music in Half-Life 2 is created to accompany the game, so why not listen while I play, at least for the first run-through.

I liked the energetic tune in the new coastline part. (E3 2004).

On, for all that is good and holy!!

When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest.

When those beats start pumping, the bullets start flying and the combine start dropping all will be right in the world of PC gaming. Oh boy...

I say yes now but i bet i leave it off when it comes down to playing it.. I'll prob want to hear the enemies before they start firing at me (CS sort of thing)..

On for the first few run throughs atleast. I really don't like quite games i.e. CS so music is ussually a must have.

To topicstarter: Why the f*ck would you be interested in wether other people had their music on or off..and start a thread about it ..?

I know that there isn't much to talk about atm..but posts like these are getting pathetic .. :p

Who on earth would turn the music off? It's not like it isn't designed purely for the game.

Yeah, i can´t forget that amazing piece of music from the E3-2k4 when Gordon was about to use the magnetic crane to lift that crate on the combines.

Music on because thats how it is supposed to be.

Well people gotta find something to talk about till the game actually gets here, I mean some of us have been waiting for quite a while now.

And yes I'll leave the music on. :E

Hell yeah, the soundtrack is mixed with the everything else gives you HL2........HL2 without the music is == to Gordon without the HEV Suit.

HL had music? Wow...I really missed out then heh.

Anyway, yeah, I'll leave the music on in HL2.

I will play with it on as it doesn't get on my nerves.. It was pretty loud at E3 this year.

On, the new soundtrack is very cool, just listen to the music in the coastline vids :)

Nah - Music off in all games for me!

it makes the game much more tense and realistic.

I hate it when music pumps up just as you are about to encounter some baddies. I would rather wander round a corner spot them and dive for cover hoping they hadnt seen me.

I dont think much of the music i have heard in half life 2 - its a bit cheap ass as far as techno goes.

honestly. why do you even care? i yawned at the sight of this thread.

I never played a game that had music with the music turned off. I don't think I will with Half-Life 2 either.
Even though it may be more realistic without music you get more of the gaming experience by listening to the music. (As long as it is good that is.)

Yep i'll play with the music on, especially since they have soundscapes in the game.

judging from the e3 video music, i'm gonna have to say OFF...
like a poster above said, as far as techno goes, it's pretty cheesy/low quality
just my opinion... you can't expect EVERYONE to like that music

I will play with it on, I didnt get the satisfaction of playing the first through with music because... well i really dont know, but it didnt work till I got my new computer, so I am hoping it will at to the experience.

Of course you have to have the music on, its a good part of the game experience.

im confident that valve is making the music add alot to the atmosphere.... in most games ive played, music plays a vital role in making me feel either safe, unsafe, or outright scared, even when its softly in the BG....

so deinfitely on for me...

Why would I turn the music off to play it? Music makes a game a whole lot better.

HL1 Soundtrack was awesome (especially in BS) , but HL2's soundtrack seems too techno to me, if it's like that for the whole game i'll just put some Walls of jericho, afterschool knife fight, saetia, gunmoll... and so on...

But it *HAS* to be good, i mean music creates the atmosphere after all...

I'm rather confused ... where are the 17 people who voted off? I mean everyone here is saying on (including me) ... :s

I hated the music in Half-Life 1. I thought the game was a lot more tense without it. From the E3 videos this year, I'd say I'll be turning it off this time around too. Nothing ruins the atmosphere for me more than an electronic beat. In a game like this, it's orchestral music or nothing. Wish they'd hired a good orchestral composer, it always adds a layer of class. I mean look at the Star Wars OT films - do you think that would have lasted as long as they have had they used some cheesy late 70's synth soundtrack? Of course not. Orchestral music is timeless.

Music always adds a lot to the overall feeling so I voted Yes. Cannot say I've played HL1 with much music on though & that game seemed fine without it :)

i might put it on during the second time through, but first time i dont want any distraction from music. i dont think ive ever played an FPS with the music on.

But not appropriate for HL2 in my opinion. Hmm, shooting alien bugs and combine soldiers to a classical piece of music just doesn't seem right to me in any way at all.

On definatly. It enhances the feeling as someone said, sad music, action music, anger music, mysterious music; it is there for a REASON.

And the coast music Roxxored. :)
