Lately, after installing Norton 2005 my windows xp pro has had issues hanging up during shut down. It gets to the windows is shutting down screen and never leaves it. I have Win XP Pro SP 2. Any fixes you guys know of would be greatly appreciated.

this sounds similar to a problem i sometimes have.

i go to "shut down", it says saving settings, but never actually makes it to "windows is shutting down".

this doesn't always happen, only sometimes, but when it does it will not save a setting in the quick launch bar or a similar setting.

anyone else ever heard or had this problem, oh and to the original poster, is this exactly what happens to you?

not quire, usually mine gets to windows is shutting down, after saving settings, and just stops, no matter how long i leave it it starys there. and there is no more hard drive activity either.

okay so yours gets a little further than mine, don't boast ;)

It's Windows. What did you expect to happen, everything working correctly?

Have you tried uninstalling Norton and seeing if the problem still occurs? If it does still stop at shutdown, then it's safe to say you can reinstall Norton. Are you completely update with Windows Update? BIOS updates? Drivers?
