WIN64 Reason for Delay?

As HL2 is gonna fully support win64, it could seem like one possible reson for delay is that win64 is not completed yet , and therefore HL2 needs to wait for win64 release to sell more and test the compability among users of win64.....

What do you think..is there a posibility that Gabes early years in MS could be another reason for delaying...?

EDIT: Ment 64 bit WIN for AMD , sorry for confusing

If I remember right, the 64bit Edition of WinXP is out since a (long) while. So I don't think this could be a reason.

It's a long time i been here, but I don't think gabe will delay his long anticipated game just for the release of windows64......

But i can always be wrong :p

I doubt it. Valve have said that they will releaed 64-bit support at a later date, just not now. There's very little point when WIn64 isn't coming out for a while.

Gabe doesn't have much to do with Microsoft anymore.

And i don't believe that x86-64 is going to be supported from gamelaunch.

As Fisker_q says, valve arn't planning on taking advantage of win64 on release, it'll be patched though. :)

OK, didnt know that Valve already had said that it will not support Win64 at gamelaunch :)

I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure they've explicitly said this. :)

the 64bit Edition of WinXP is coming feb-2005...........long time to wait. I don't think its the reason for the delay.

there will be few optimisations needed any way...

Valve wouldn't delay the game for something like this, especially when they know for a fact that most users are still using Win32 and 32bit processors from their recent hardware surveys.

Instead what they'll do is release the game, and when it's needed, use Steam to rollout an update for those people compatible with the new software/hardware and include extra features to exploit it.

no way would VALVe delay Half-Life 2 just for 64-bit support, not enough users would benefit from it anyhow.

Whats the difference between 64 bits and 32? How much more fps could you get from 64?

Alot of diff........for example stalker team are developing 64bit version of the game and they said the 64bit version will have bigger maps more players added, more types of weapons and more features (improved physics system, improved AI )......etc

basically 64 bit allows more enhances to be made...........Stalker 32bit will use 1-1.5Km sqr maps for the 64BIT is alot bigger.

Long live the AMD64 CPUs
