Windows 7 Home Premium $30 for college students

Bumping this because I discovered you can get Professional for the same price.

what if I'm a college student who took 2 years off from college but i'm still on the roster at college??

In the Terms of Use, it says that Microsoft has the right to contact you to verify your student status, so probably no.

Which is the better version? Obviously, professional has more features - but will it just be bloated with things I won't use?

Can I use an upgrade version with Apple Boot Camp? Meaning, can I upgrade straight from XP to Win7 inside of Windows. Because if you do it via Boot Camp you can't use an upgrade version.

running a unactivated copy of the RTM but I bought it anyways. Don't think you can do much better than this deal.

So it's a digital download copy? Is it easy to burn it to a DVD? I just want a disc in case I need to reinstall it in the future.

I think you NEED to make a dvd copy of it to get it to work.

OK, yeah, that's what I was thinking. So when are you authorized to download and install it? On October 22nd?

I'm having second thoughts...I mean I would eventually 'get' it...

On checkout you can select a disk version, but you have to pay $13 more.
cool

I want a copy of the disc and my own key.

Thing is, I'm not in college right now. But I could sign up to a class at my community college. I looked online on how to get an email address from the college and apparently they give you one when you enroll. And it may become deactivated if you are no longer taking classes, FYI

Seems like a lot of hassle? Yes, but I've been thinking of taking a class on programing or something - in fact just yesterday.

yeah wait till they work out all the bugs. i image 100,000 people will have problems and a patch 1 week in will be well worth the wait

Just because you buy it now doesn't mean you have to install it right away.

QFT, I have gotten a few things at great deals that I didn't use right away, but I knew I would later and it was too good to pass up.

This seems like one of those. ;)

It also looked like the Ultimate Steal is going again

Office is internationally available.

W7 isn't 'yet.'

LOVE THE CANADIAN.

Ah hell, I pre-ordered the Professional. OS is worth at least that much.

They have been fixing bugs ever since the beta way back in january. Im using the RC with its latest updates. Im not experiencing any problems at all. As far as compatibility goes, i have only had 1 program not work which is Lavasoft.

The biggest feature for me is Windows XP mode, especially with some old games I play like Starcraft and AoE2. You can look at the comparison chart here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/compare-editions/default.aspx

I heard you can boot it from an external drive if you follow the right steps. I wasn't successful with it though. I just burned the W7 image to a DVD and it worked fine.

I'll give somebody 60 bucks if they get me a copy.

EDIT: Wait, how do they check your status? Do you really just need a school email address? Our school keeps our email addresses active forever, so...

Like I said before, Microsoft reserves the right to contact you and confirm your current student status.

ACM had the same kind of deal for students. 19$ per copy and you could buy as many copies as you wanted. But as the word spread they had to remove the licence since people were buying like 20 copies. Plus it was international :(

Edit: IEEE has win7 for 27$, but you actually have to be a student (uni degree I think) to get it.

Yeah, but im talking at the time of buying it. I really doubt they would check up on it. And if they do, they'll just revoke my license. Whatever. Worth a shot for 30 bucks, because frankly, thats probably the only way i would buy windows 7 any time soon.

Krynn, you need a .edu email address in order to make the transaction. They send you an email to the address you give them.

I read that Microsoft has the right to charge you for the difference if they find you aren't really a student.

Dear Captain Mad,

I am contacting you in regards to your post curtailing Microsoft Windows 7. You ****ing rule.

Sincerely,

Ya, especially since I had to reformat my desktop and the only operating system I had legally was windows 7.

So I found out that I could get win 7 through my school for free. But it's labeled as RTM, the hell is RTM?

Release to Manufacturing. It's when the code is completed, signed off, and ready for CD/DVD pressing.

So if I have the RTM and they gave me a product key, am I good to go? This thing is like the real deal? It won't start shutting down every 2 hours come March?

I believe that only applied to the release candidate. As long as it's a genuine key there's no reason why it shouldn't be.

Any idea if this deal just provides an upgrade from vista or a full version?

I wanted the 64bit version, but I'm on 32bit Vista. I know I can't do an upgrade, only a fresh install. I can't deduce if these offers will provide an iso for a full 64bit install D:

No idea Glenn this shit is needlessly confusing.

I just finished installing it and besides a few noticeable visual differences it doesn't feel that much different than vista tbh.
