Winxp - 2 PCs

Ok I will have my new PC built soon. Now I own a (Purchased) copy of Winxp. But you can't install the same copy on two different computers.

I have heard about people calling micro$oft and obtaining a second activation code, but I am not enitrely sure if it is true.

Will they? If not will I have to buy a new copy of winxp or can I simply purchase a second activation code?

Microsoft really stepped up the level of anti piracy. I guess they got fed up after everyone just copied and passed along all the older versions.

I dont think microsoft officially sells just activation codes. You can check out ebay, pricegrabber, bunch of other places where you can just buy the activation code(Which is what I had done). You can buy the activation code alone for hell of a lot cheaper price.

They do sell just the license.
This way you can have 1 CD and buy license for each PC.

Well, technically speaking, you can install one copy on two machines (and activate it I think), the problem is that you can't use both machines at the same time. Photoshop is the same way.

Not sure if this would help you though, but it did me when I use one copy for the desktop and the same one on the laptop when obviously I can't use both at the same time.

There are means to get around this, but its tricky at best.
Myself, I ran out of legal reinstalls looooooooong ago. (A million hardware changes since I first picked it up). So thats what I've had to do.
