Ok i jsut got a new computer , on my old one WinXp worked fine , it still does with one problem. When I quit a program Half-Life for example it exits and everything , but when I go into Windows Task Manager its still playing in the background taking up 12MB of ram , and I cannot play that program or Half-Life for this example until i end the process of the old one , anyone have any ideas to fix it or whats wrong? Thanks in advance :)

I don't own windows XP but I do know that it has problems running older games, it might just be a little quirk that XP has with Half Life. Then again im no expert.

hmmm... Well then im at a loss right now. Only thing I know of right now that could be a possibility is that you have set something wierd with XP in the settings somewhere. However I doubt thats the case, youve probably already looked for something like that by now im guessing.

Nah not really , ive been trying to ignore it lool . Thnx for trying to help though.

try running the game in compatibility mode. right click on the .exe file, (like hl.exe) and goto properties. then click on the compatibility tab, then click on the checkbox for "run this program in compatibility mode for and check windows 98 or whatever". don't take my word for it, it might not work and it might screw ur ur comp even more. but then again, i think you can always uncheck the box.

I had that problem all the time too and I thought that maybe I should run it in comaptability mode and come to find out that it was already running in Windows 95 compatability mode. What I did was just stopped it from running in compatability mode and it works fine now.

Oh, thats it. Thak you good sir , DoD had problems and I was told to run HL in compatibility mode to fix it , I really just had to reinstall DoD the mod , I forgot and left HL on compatibility mode , At least I hope that is the problem but i imagine it is , thnx again. Everyone.
