Just wondering what you guys think of my current model. It has been spline modelled from the beginning, the only thing that wasn't spline modelled was the tail plane.

Now the big problem with the f117 is smoothing, it has very sharp edges which i need to make prominent, the problem is if i remove smoothing, the edges that i don't want to be prominent become prominent. Does anyone have any ideas?

Solution: Only apply smoothing groups to the smooth parts.

The problem is, the non-smooth parts, what should just be 1 big face is made up of smaller faces. When you remove the smoothing from these areas, it reveals all the faces that i want to remain hidden as well as the main face.

That's why there can be lots of different smoothing groups. If you take a sphere and put one half in smoothing group 1 and the other half in 2 both halves will be smooth but there will be a sharp edge between them.

Ok, give me a moment and i will give your idea a try :).

Ok, thankyou for your help. I didn't know why i didn't think of that.

The model really isn't for any modification, i just thought i would post it here to see what you guys think. It is far from being completed and i am hoping to put in as much detail as i humanly can i.e. wheels that retract, opening bomb bay, and a Paveway as well.

looks decet, though you would get a much better looking model, and easier to change, from poly modeling it.

I found spline modelling much easier to get the basic model down. How do you mean by better looking model, what different would there be between my model and if i had poly modelled it?

When you say poly modelled, i presume you mean box modelled?

It has lots of detail, most of the detail would be around the canopy area and around the flir with the jagged edges.

Just a little more detail. Would anyone be interested in using my model in a modification :). Might make a nice target for terrorists :)

Yeah, by poly model I mena box model. Well, by better looking, you would have more, even, polys, and that would make the smoothing groups much nicer on the eye.

It would be easier to work with because you would have regular groups of polies, instead of jsut one oddly shaped poly.

Too me, it would of been a lot harder to make the model out of polygons and take longer as well then to do Spline modelling.

while true it would be much harder and take longer to do with Box modeling the results would be well wort the extra effort. post a wirframe of the model and change it to a grey color so we can see better what we are looking at and it will make it easier to point out areas that could be touched up on.

One wireframe :).

The polygon count is around 2000 at the moment, i am intending to pretty much put in as much detail as i possibly can and not worry about polygon count.
