Ok this is a weapon im designing its supposed to look a little futuristic perhaps 20years or so into the future. Anyway its supposed to be a uzi type weapon that can either be used in one hand or extended and used in two for better accuracy unfortunately im learning the hard way how much more difficult it is to create a model without a proper reference image. It currently ways in at about 1900triangles but i can easily cut that down to about 1600 which i will do once ive finalised the design anyway i was after some opinions on the design. Ohh and i will be redesigning the dorky front handle that was just something i threw on so you would understand what i meant.

a little plain, but a good base to build up from, keep at it. Draw a few design out on paper to help you.

Thats better than I can do  , but yeah, good job :), more detail d00d

The model looks good but get rid of the nasty background...It decreases the look of the model...Sad but true. Hope I help.

Yeah i agree about the tacky background i just added it in because the black background darkened it and made it harder to see. Ive Changed it to a simple dark red instead hope thats a little easier on the eyes ive just made a few minor cosmetic changes i could add more detail but i want to keep the poly count down as low as possible a good texture and possibly bump maps should do the rest. It sits at 1855triangles right now, an optimize can cut it down to 1500 although there is no physical deformation it would make it more difficult to skin.

hate to break it to you but thats not really texturing. Wheres the details in the texture? Like little lines, rivets, scratches, individual panels. Texturing takes a long time but right now it looks as if you've just thrown on one tile material to the entire mesh.

uhh i never said i textured it :) its a simple grey right now

Acatully, like it the way it is. Maybe some sort of extenable stock?

It's a cool design, I'd try using a real pistol grip design as a starting point though, as how it is right now it'd be painful to fire most likely hehe.

Also if your going to have the whole front of the gun be the the slide, the magazine would have to be behind it(how do the bullets feed into the chamber?). That is the magazine that curls backward right? If it's not and it's just a handle I don't think you could hang on to it at a high rate of fire either. The whole top part of the gun is very cool but the bottom needs a bit of rethinking IMHO.

hey man this is going to be some constructive critism right here.

1st) The Grip should be centered like a real uzi.
2nd) Make a longer clip (straight) coming out of the grip like a conventional uzi. Im not to sure but that clip seems small and impracticle.
3rd) Tell how many polys it is and keep up the imagination. Your doing a good job.

He's not trying to make an uzi.... if he does your suggestions he's canceling out #3.....

I think the handle and clip looks kind of out of proportion... Face it, you would fall over if tried to quickly lift it and shoot someone :)
I assume its still a conventional weapon with no fancy plasma/ion/laser/whatever armament that can explain such a puny clip and out of proportion gun? Its good, just not very practical it seems.

very...

very nice design nicely layed out .
ur main body and barrel is very good there are 2 things u should change the clip and ur handle they don make sense and the secondary hanlde (is that wht its called ?) shoul be longer and i think it should look like the one on the steyr aug .
nice work.
just on question how do u cock it ?
and do thoses extrusions and stuff have a meaning ?

argh.. i hate it when modelers make something and then render it soo crappy. god, use a light background so we can see the sillouett also dont make everything so dark. and post a wireframe.

Constructive critiscism is always welcome and yeah its mainly imagination on this one, i can create a good model of any real gun no problem but when it comes to designing one straight out of my head the problems increase 10fold. Im still trying to design the basic shape and make it as belieavable as possible which is why i posted it in here. Thanks anyone who suggest changes to the design etc. The little extrusions on the side i just added for temporary detail ill redesign them more when i have figured out a theme to it (ie black and chrome or army colors etc) suggestions are welcome on that aswell. Im working on alot of the problems you guys addressed and i should come up with something a little better later today :)

Ohh and just for clarification on whats what so far the part at the back is the handle the part in the middle is the clip and the part at the front is the folding down front handle.

I have changed it to instead have a clip inside the handle like a pistol Im not sure if it looks better or worse so any opinions would be good. Ohh and ignore the coloring on it i was just playing around trying to get a feel for its color theme.

i know this is concept work and that ur new to modeling but before u start making a gun u shud learn the shapes and the styles of other guns and u also have to obey certain rules even if it is concept work
1) ur trigger system has very little place in the gun , this makes the body look like the barrel of a bigger unfinished gun.
2) all guns have recoil so they do 2 things to help this have a nice handle grip , sheck the handles of the m4 , mp5 or a pistol they arent so flat. and they add a foldable stock ffor smg's try looking at the micro uzi u may get an idea .
3) that second handle look 2 short and thin
just some c&c

Also, if the clip is now inside the handle you need to make the handle wider, unless you're shooting pellets...

Yeah im taking a quick break from this gun while i model an uzi to get a better feel for this kind of weapon :)
