This is my first real model that I have been working on without a tutorial, this is about an hour of working and I would like critics please... I haven't gotten to the handle yet, because it is a lot smoother area and I am not too good on smooth stuff yet :) Also, I split lots of edges when I was doing this to raise up the sightrails and stuff, is that a good thing to do when modelling?

One more question, I saw earlier that waedoe had split his gun into pieces so he could texture them, how do you do that and put your thing back together in the perfect places it was before?

yea man, youve got the shape all wrong, and your mesh doesnt look too clean. it depends what youre going for, the xp or trying to recreate the uzi as well as possible. get some good reference pictures before you start, you can never have too many, even have 4 from the same angle. one migh show up something that the others didnt...oh and use them

Good luck on getting a jobb at Valve.

Well, they obviously have people that indeed model that (rather ugly?) way :p look at the 'mp5-sd' in HL-1...

No offense, it's his first model, so what?

its my first model and im young so im not worried about it, im just glad ive gotten this far in three days of xsi... anyways, i am using reference pictures of my airsoft uzi gun... it is kinda hokey looking but i want the experience and just want to keep getting used to making 3d models...

dude it's fine for a first effort but maybe it would be worth waiting until it's a bit more finished before posting. I'd try using a couple of tutorials and maybe plan a bit better because the mesh looks like it has areas with wasted polys.
