After every restart I have to re-enable this service. I'm using my laptop with Windows XP service pack 3. I've been fiddling around with settings for over an hour and I can't seem to find a solution.
Windows XP has ALWAYS ALWAYS had a problem with WZC. Honestly, when I used XP, I always encountered that problem after maybe 2 months of having a completely clean reformatted PC. I've not got a solution for you, but if it comes down to it, have you thrown around the idea of reformatting?
I used it for a few years. It can be tricky to get set up if you don't know how, but once it's set up correctly, it shouldn't bother you again.
- Make sure you set it to 'allow windows to configure this wireless connection'.
(instead of whatever software that came with your wireless device - in fact you may need to uninstall that or remove it from start up programs)
- Make sure it's set to 'automatically connect' to your favored wireless signal.
Do you have any third part application installed to control wireless connectivity e.g. many pci wireless cards etc come with software that automatically installs if you let it, this disables wireless zero config every time it starts up.
Have you checked the event log for possible errors related to the start up of this service? The event log is located under Control Panel > Administrative Tools.
