I just got my rig in September, and since I was kind of short on funds, I had to stick with the A-64 S-754 3000+. I know AMD is dropping 754 in the future, and 939 will be their mainstream CPU line, but I'm wondering about a few things:
About how long do you guys think I can last with my 3000+? A year? Two? A few months? Which is it?
Also, since I'm on 754, when I do upgrade my CPU, I'll need a new mobo. I'm not really worrying which mobo I'll get right now, but what I'm more curious about is this. Say I have the parts, CPU and mobo, I need to swap my currents with the new goodies, besides taking out my GPU and any PCI cards I have, and besides unhooking any PSU plugs connected with my mobo, will I have to really move anything else around, or take an other parts out?
When I do this procedure, I'll definitely have some guide or something, but I want some rough ideas right now. I'm worried that swapping them will be a very precise operation. Am I just being a nervous nelly?
