Woman In Wheelchair Booed At Health Care Town Hall

I bet that if there was a republican president in the white house who proposed a health care reform, all the conservatives would be all for it. I think they hate it just for the sake of hating, just because its a non-republican proposing it.

exactly

For a minute there I thought Alex Jones was that guy at the back of the hall

People in general are stupid and I agree with Ravioli. Of course, blind stupidity can go the other way around too if the Republicans actually had a good idea for a change.

I didn't hear what they were yelling, but it didn't seem like they were cheering her on. Anyone catch any of what they were yelling?

I clearly here one of the males in the back yelling "GET A JOB!"

some people need to be strangled and left in a dumpster

I agree, if she can't be arsed paying for her own insurance, good riddance. just because shes in a wheel chair she should still pay her way

i meant the people yelling in the background, but now that you mention it...she looks a little suspect. i'm keeping my eye on her.

Others were yelling "what's the question?!" as if to tell her to shut up.

I can see their reasoning with that. It was a question session, and she used as a chance to advertise her stance in a statement.

I'm ignorant. Why are Americans(some anyway) so against a public health care system?

Coz Obama will start aborting unborn kids? :p

Some of it is because misinformation, other parts because it was proposed by a democrat, and a very, very small minority actually have an issue with the healthcare itself.

The valid concern out there is that with the public option (basically an allowance for people who have health insurance already / can get health insurance already to choose the government provided care plan), private companies will either be driven out of business or their level of care will change for the worse. Another concern is how, with the current deficit, we will pay for it.

However, these concerns are held by a tiny minority that really isn't heard at all.

Honestly I probably would have booed too. She's not a very good public speaker. Learn about oratory then preach, sister!

what i also don't like is huge corporations getting slapped with big fines right now at a time we need critical growth. my gov't is more ****ed up than your gov't

Ahahahahahaha that's funny. You do realise I'm from Northern Ireland, right?

Northern Ireland? Never heard of it...

That's the Republic of Ireland
/sigh

If it wasn't for you lot we'd have these laws in the north too and then dirty jet wouldn't have embarrsed himself.

My lot? I think you've attributed me to belonging to the others rather than my ones.

Don't be silly, one side uses camáns to beat you up while the other sticks bagpipes up your arse.

I'm taking you into a back alley Solaris.

Because they're idiots stuck in the god damn cold war where their primary focus is on socialism/communism. And any thought of the government doing right by its people is evil.

Not sure if I agree with this. But I believe this is a valid point of view to have if you're against socialized medicine.

It's exactly the same market anarchist argument that's often used, except presented more coherently and with more sophisticated logical fallacies, eg. 'insurance companies are FORCED into having to lobby government by you socialists!' Doesn't stand up to scrutiny at all.

Also, 'food and clothing are 'essentials' but they aren't nationalised!' - when actually they are, or at least people's ability to afford them is nationally subsidised. If you can prove you can't afford these things, the US government gives you taxpayer's money so that you can.

'Profits signal to producers of goods and resources what the economy most needs at that time'? 'Profits prevent misallocation of resources in the economy'? Perhaps these are quotes from some notable economist, but it amazes me that people would use stuff like this as the lynchpin of their pro-privatisation argument, considering the global economic downturn we've just gone through. So what we 'most need' are hedge fund managers and rogue banks, I guess...? Exactly how have profits 'prevented misallocation of resources' recently?

So all in all, nothing new, just a more fastidious and sneaky effort to patch the cracks in the argument which gets rolled out whenever these people get tired of calling Obama 'Hitler/'a communist'.

Whenever I hear the term 'socialized' I die a little inside

I wasn't aiming all that criticism at you, Murray, just the people who most typically attack the health reform plan in America. And no, I don't necessarily believe that there is just a loony 'fringe' making all the reasonable fiscal conservatives look bad; if the Palin/McCain campaign showed anything, it was that all the crazed 'Obama is a communist/terrorist' scaremongering has a hell of a lot of mainstream mileage.

It's also pretty funny if you consider how much Hitler HATED communism, he viewed communism as the greatest cancer of society.

Ug! I couldn't finish that video. Jeeze have some respect for that woman.

Also, some of the points in "Why we don't need socialized medicine" are basic economic principles. The guy who is being corrected has very little legitimacy. it like he expects for companies no to make ANY profit... that's ridiculous.
