Ummm what?

Errr, I think I understand what your saying. The benchmark those sites used was the one at ATI's shader event. It was 3 maps from HL2 that we have already seen in the E3 videos.

I mean I want to know more about the benchmark

I want to know what minimum framerate is in certain part of the game and how often will we get those low minimum fps.
Also, I want to know what fps is on gf mx440, ati 9500, and etc.

I just want a little more analysis.

thanks for trying to understand.

I expect Fragmaster to be shot in the benchmark...

I wouldn't expect any hardware sites to give you that kind of info. They only care about how different video cards compare, and care little about how playable a game is going to be with specific hardware. Hopefully valve releases the benchmark to the public so that these sorts of issues can be looked at.

Framerate will take an impact when there are more characters on the screen. I seen the framerate drop in Bugbait when all the creatures came out of their burial holes.

The Source engine was designed to handle large levels, like the Unreal Tournament engine, so framerate won't have an impact there.

At one time I had heard that the Source engine was being designed to stay at a constant framerate, and that the engine would dynamically change to acheive playable framerates. Anyone know if this is still the case?

TheWall421, you are correct the source engine can be set to reduce visual quality dynamically to try and keep the game running above a certain framerate (like 60 fps or whatever), but for benchmarking where it's essential to keep the visual quality settings constant on each cards to get a good comparison, that feature is disabled.

So source does have it and can do it but it doesn't use it in benchmarks.

im Thinking theres no benchmark because they have to remove all the hdr coding so nvidia cards dont crawl

dont expect a benchmark ANYTIME SOON GUYS

The benchs tested @ valve office. Few time were given to tomshardware, anandtech and techreport. They only could do tests on major cards and not with all details level on each card they want

edit : mmh lol sorry for english :D

Maybe it wont be this whoel video thing at all. i mean for the first HL at the website they have this thing where it tesed ur comp specs and says how well it will run it on a scale.

id rather have a benchmark than that, I dont know what 43.876 fps looks like

just go into a game where you get 80fps+(or set low detail so you get lots of frames), set EDIT: COM_MAXFPS to 45, and you can see how smooth that is. im talkin about q3 engine games, so games like mohaa, not sure what the command is for other games.
