It's been working fine under 32-bit, but I've now installed it on v.1218 of XP Pro x64. HL2 loads OK, I see the Valve man and the text screen, then it crashes back to desktop with an error that available memory is less than 128MB! Obviously this isn't the case, there is well over 3GB free, so I'm suspecting that it's related to XP x64 showing applications a much larger address space e.g. After Effects has 3.5 GB to play with.

Anyone seen this before, is there any fix?

Why are you running a Beta Program?

You're just asking for problems !

Why in the world do you have some much ram?? I think that amount you have is completely pointless for normal/gaming use. You could have used all that money and you could have gotten yourself an x800 XT PE or somthing.

Oh yeah, and about that problem. Have you tried setting the heapsize? I recall someone posting about using Half-Life 2 under 64 bit Windows and he never had a problem.

You're just jealous!

Thats part of it, but think of a situation where more than 1GB is needed. There is none. I have 512 ram and when I Alt+Crtl+Del and look at my memory, I see more that 300MB availiable. Unless you are going to run every porgram you can think of at once then you'll need 4GB.

Photoshop.

4GB though? Wouldn't 1GB be sufficient for photoshop, assuming you're not playing games at the same time and running other programs?

Working with crazy photoshop stuff can push 1 gig, lots of breathing room with 2, far and away enough at 2.5 No need to have more than 3, regardless of how crazy your photoshopping is.

Photoshop performs better with a lot of Memory and two Processors. Some people have an entire Disk Drive for a Scratch File even with 4GB of Memory.
