halflife 2 won't start it always says preparing to play halflife 2 and then it doesn't start

How long are you waiting?

You may just be very impatient. An "not" up to date pc can take up to 3 minutes to load levels.

what are your specs could be that u have a slow proccesor

go to hl in your steam games list and look to see if the amount aquired is 100%....i assume it is, but ya never know....i just tried redownloading the game and it was stuck at the loading screen......if thats not helping, try reinstalling ur video driver.....if that doesnt help....id say just install the game again....

Validate your files. If that doesn't work, check the Steam Forums for people that have a similar problem. Maybe they have an answer?
