Dystopia, a Half-Life 2 modifcation which places the player into tense combat situations in a high tech world, are officially the first Half-Life 2 mod out there to get a dedicated server up and running. Here's a quote from their news post:
While it's only a very early build of Dystopia, it has already allowed the members of Team Dystopia to begin testing weapons and gameplay. It's a big step for us and I can say that the joy of seeing our hard work begin to take shape is a real motivator for everyone involved with the creation of Dystopia.
Very exciting stuff so if you want to find out more about Dystopia, direct your browser to their website.[br]As a reminder to all mod teams out there, if you ever wish to see your mod's news right here, or any other news, then please e-mail us on [email protected] and we'll do our best to get it posted.

awesome. this is one of the mods that ive been keeping my eyes on. great to hear that they are making good progress

this is nice ^_^ I've been waiting for this mod, hope it'll be up and running soon enough :)

nice! I hope other mods will come out soon...

Nice :) my congratulations to the dev team :)

were can i find a download link
(cant belive i posted that)

I'd rather wait till its polished and finished, so as not to taint my gaming experience..

pendage, i can't wait until any mods come out :). This one does seem especially cool

not yet, the mod is still under development ;) Congrat to the team ^_^

Hmmm I don't know what to say about the mod... Seems like they are just using the "We have a build!" as a publicity stunt and all o_O From their site a lot of things are "encoded" which is really strange because I have no clue if I will like the mod or not..... Not sure if it's some sort of planning where they honestly haven't planed things or what, but without features I won't invest the time in being in the Dystopia communty.

Glad they got something working though, though I doubt it's much :)

Thanks everyone, and a big thanks to valve for sorting out the server for us.

To answer those who're curious about the release date of Dystopia, it won't be for quite a few months yet, as we have thousands of hours of coding and testing and mapping and modeling to go until the whole thing plays well, runs well and is bug free.

Sign ups to the beta test will begin after the first DevLAN, which is schedualed for late Janurary, so keep your eyes on the site.

Cheers everyone!

Iced_Eagle, more information on dystopia is available from the gamestah radio interview we did last night.. the file will be available soon :)
Oh, and say hi to MadMechWarrior for me :)

I think its just some kinda promo trick.
I doubt its anything worth even talking about to the outside world.

Since there are no screenshot or anything.

Why would there be screenshots? Like it says on our website:

While it's only a very early build of Dystopia, it has already allowed the members of Team Dystopia to begin testing weapons and gameplay.

Nothing to see really.. at least nothing that would reflect the quality of the finished game.

Eh, who cares. I'm just glad to see things are making progress.

The outside world wouldn't be interested in the fact that the Dystopia coders worked with Valve to fix an issue which was stopping any mod developers from running a dedicated server?

Personally I thought it was such a large step in our development that we should share the good news with our fanbase.
