Worst Boss fights

Hitman 2. The end dude has just as much health as any average guy. Makes sense but damn to easy.

Runners up:

Sniper Wolf 1 and 2. Kojima obviously wasn't content with us enduring 1 of these yawn inducing scenarios. So he included another. Awesome. Only not. Made good on the idea in MGS3 though.

I loved those sniper wolf fights...wtf mate? :)

Really? I thought they were shit. Infact I'm pretty sure they were.

Uber soldat in Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Cyberdemon in Doom 3... I'm sure there's another but I can't remember.

Nobody considers it a boss, besides fanboys, but the Scarab of Halo 2. And the end boss thing in Prey. Holy shit that was pointless.

I'm not certain if this counts as a boss, but defeating Dr Breen was definitely one of the worst parts of HL2 for me. It wasn't even entertaining. What were they thinking? Players shouldn't be forced into playing some crummy platforming shash while shooting at the same damn drones they've been killing the entire game. I also thought that Breen's taunts suffered from poor delivery and as a result any atmosphere in the scene was destroyed.

I did enjoy the ending of the game though (after the reactor blows).

The 'boss' at the end of SS2 was pretty lacklustre as well, for reasons you will largely be familiar with if you have beaten the game.

I didn't like most of the bosses in MGS either. Psycho Mantis was a particularly gimmicky one.

Super Mario Sunshine's final battle was way too simple and definitely far too easy.

I liked Psycho Mantis... but he was pretty Gimmicky.

I'll agree that Breen in a glowy tube wasn't exactly the boss battle i was looking for. I was thinking... MECHA BREEN.

...Then why did I unload three AK clips into his head?!

there was a bug in that game were you could garrote him through door of the confession booth. He'd die but not, so his body would zip around the building taunting you (but not shooting). Man it's hard to hit that guy when he's lying down and moving so fast.

Psycho Mantis rocked, best, most original, boss ever.

Eh, he isn't that good. I really enjoyed the idea that he was turning the NPC against you (very good), but when the screens turns off to HIDEO it all goes down the pan. Other than that I guess it was good.

Eh, well I liked everything about that game. To each their own I suppose.

I really like MGS1...but I also hated the Metal Gear fight at the end.

Anyone remember the ending of Oddworld Abe's Odyssee? It wasn't a boss fight, but it sucked because if you hadn't saved enough NPCs, you couldn't finish the game as "the winner". I installed the game again and this time it's personal. I will save those suckers and see the good ending.

Bosses are an overrated excuse for lack of good gameplay ideas. They all suck golfballs.

I can't read that whole post, because I've still never beaten that game. Boy do I love it, though. I have the CD sitting next to my monitor at home :P

Jack of Blades in Fable. The build-up to the fight was intense, his army of minions and undead spreading across the land. The Guildmaster was injured, the guild, my home, in flames, most aprrentices dead...
I killed Jack of Blades in 5 shots. (Skorms bow + Solus Greatsword + uber spells = pwn). The one at the end of Lost Chapters was even worse and wasn't even suspensful.

Abe's Exoddus is harder... around 300 NPCs to save... I have never saved them all.

i did, and i think exoddus is slightly easier, by which i mean it's hard as **** but not impossible like odyssey.

also, the annoying shit in gun valkyrie

The fight against Shodan in System Shock 2 was a let down. Played through again today. Heavy weapons 4 + grenade launcher, she goes down in 2 shots after taking the front shield panel down.

Plus she wasn't too great looking either (floating head wtf?) still better than the fight with the many. Oooh pretty stars and a spinning thing.

I can't be bothered with reading this entire thread so if this has been posted already, oops.

The final "form" of Sepheroth (?) took like one hit to kill in FFVII. Wtf.

The scarab was the funnest part of the game. Also, the bosses in MGS2 were pretty bad. And the xbox version of Splinter Cell:DA had a mini-boss fight against Emile that was was really out of place and easy(the level itself is ****ing hard though,)

Seriously, though: Lol@TheEnd. Man, that was funny.

That was the point, you're meant to use Omnislash on him to finish him off. It opens up to use even if you hadn't gotten it at that point. Take it as a lead-up to the end movie rather than another form - Square giving you atleast a little control over what happens :P

Painkiller: Hell Wars had some gi****ingantic bosses, but they just sucked. Just unload on them and move on.

Yeah. If you can call any given gameplay scenario the 'end of game boss', it sucks by default. Many of my favorite games have such scenarios, and they're commonly the Achilles heel of all those titles. System Shock 1 and 2, Half-Life, Final Fantasy games (and hell knows they have some of the worst. There's always some hastily contrived explanation that such and such a being is the real puppeteer).

The only exceptions I can even think of, off the top of my head are the bosses in Yoshi's Island: but these are good because they don't limit themselves to 'beat up this guy who has more hitpoints and a couple of new moves'. The challenge and quality is in the environment that the 'boss' imposes.

People are talking about the Doom 3 boss as a particularly bad instance. That's about right, but it pales in comparison to the shit-fest that was Quake 4's final fight. Or I assume it does, because I can barely remember said final Quake 4 fight. At least the Cyber-demon and the chamber it inhabited looked pretty damned cool...

Are we talking about Sephiroth himself? Or that one where he's the One Winged Angel?

After it does the whole tunnel warp effect and it's just Cloud v Sephiroth.
