SOME OF YOU LIKE TO LIST SOME OF MY FAVORITE GAMES AS GAMES THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN MADE. YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT A BAD GAME EVEN IS.

Racist games, games that don't even work after you buy them, etc.

Here is a few from Wikipedia's list.

LOOK AT THIS ONE!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_'Em_&_Eat_'Em
Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em
Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em (1982, Atari 2600) is a pornographic video game notorious for its particular plot. In the game, the player controls two women with the intent of using their mouths to catch the falling semen of a man ejaculating from a rooftop[4].

You can't really beat Wikipedia's list of worst games, since it is influenced by everyone. It also has a brief description of why that game sucked so much.

Clicking the link above will also bring up all of these useful and informative links:

A total gold mine of best/worst games and such, that.

ALSO, here 1UP's list of 50 most important games of all time:
*note this isn't the best games ever made, just the most important for the industry, that changed everything.
http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3116290

I pretty much agree with it, although some of the choices could be argued.

Feel free to counter with a different source, or whith what you feel should be different. I will say right now that Dungeon Master should have been on that list, but with only 50 choices, that happens sometimes.

OR IN OTHER WORDS, THEY MAY HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION?
YOU MAY JUST LIKE SHIT GAMES!?
OH SNAP LoL!?

Samon has a point there :)

Just because [random game] isn't complete shit doesn't mean it deserves to be made still...

Example: The GodFather - To be fair, the game wasn't total crap but it ruined The Godfather name and should never have used that license (blasphemy).

Now I don't know what your fav games are so this is just a general response.

:)

Not that I have played that game, but I think that is exactly what CapStern's thread was about.

Great example for the reason. When the game is so bad or comes off cheesy or ruins the reputation of a great movie, that is a perfect reason why the game should have never been made.

He's just showing us some games which most young people have probably never seen before which will give them more knowledge of computer games, I'm not complaining.

They diden't list Wolfenstein 3D on the 50 most important games though. :|

Yea, some of the games could have gone either way. I thought the original Wolfenstein 3D should have been on there too.

There are lists from other game sites that are different.

Many of the games mentioned in 'the games that shouldn't have been made' thread weren't necessarily terrible, but rather they didn't do much for their genre, the industry, and wouldn't really be missed had they never existed. It wasn't a competition to find the least worthy game.

I personally didn't like Doom 3 much, but can understand why some mentioned it.

Didn't like Doom 3 much? No problem. OK, but wishing Doom 3 was never made? I don't really understand that a couple people said that, unless the game offends your religion or something. If you ask me, Doom 3 is a masterpiece with no equal.

Without Doom 3 there would be no Quake 4, there would be no Resurrection of Evil, there would be no Prey, there would be no Prey 2.

Lose.

So if you wish Doom 3 was never made, you have just killed at least 5 great games that have definitely had a good impact on the industry. For this positive impact, they don't have to be 95% rating games, they just have to have certain aspects that other games previously didn't. Innovative software programing techniques and things like that.

These game sell tons of PC video cards. If people don't buy video cards, they all but stop making video cards for PC's, and they get much more expensive, being sold to developers only. And what is the point in developing for the PC if nobody is buying the hardware to play the games?

Ok, so then PC games will be a thing of the past really, with no new games coming.

Now you have to buy very very expensive PS3 'computer', with very very expensive games that are static.

"games will be somewhere between $59.99 and $100.00 for PS3" - Sony

"PS3 - $599.99 US dollars" - Sony

Again, without Doom 3 there would be no Quake 4, there would be no Resurrection of Evil, there would be no Prey, there would be no Prey 2, and there might not be PC gaming for much longer.

I wouldn't lose a seconds sleep at the thought of obliterating all of these from history :)

You may love Doom 3 - every game has its fans - but to me it was never more than an album filler. The same goes for the others - none of them even getting close to game of the month imo. There's certainly loads better available on every platform.

I feel the same way about Soccer games, Nintendo DS games, Sony games, RTS and lots of games people like. I can't stand them, but I've never said, "I think they should never be made", because I'm not that selfish, and these games play their part.

- In fact, in a Zelda DS thread I said, "I might never get to play this game, but I'm glad Nintendo makes games like this".

- In a RTS thread, I have said, "I won't wish they would stop making games like this, since I realize many of you still like them". Isn't that nice of me? :cat:

So, I won't ever play any of them, and 75% of the GBA games take about 20 minutes of painfully slow and boring dialog, where you have to input your name with a dreadful interface to even start the game, then read for another 20 minutes - but I don't wish they would stop making them, because I know many people are having fun on these games.

Personally, when I feel like reading, it isn't some teen or pre-teen video game story or other trendy anime dialog with really bad writing that has been poorly translated from another language. But, if that is what kids are reading on, then I approve. Reading is a good thing.

I never understood comic books either. Horrible. W/e, I just don't buy it. Simple.

:stare:

I sincerely hope they keep making those games for you guys. But for me, I need twitch action games like Doom 3. If you guys don't like it, just don't buy it.

I want twitch action agmes too - just not ones that bore me. I actually gave up during Quake 4 because it was so dull. Prey may have been better, but the combat in the demo brought back too many bad memories and put me off.

I'm not trying to get into a debate over how good these games are, more that they could and should have been sooo much more. Combat wise they haven't moved on in almost a decade, and are still put to shame by the likes of Golden Eye.

So if you wish Doom 3 was never made, you have just killed at least 5 great games that have definitely had a good impact on the industry.

Quite wrong. None of the titles listed have had much of an effect on the industry at all, because none are in any way ground-breaking and they brought nothing new to the table. The only decent one there is Prey, but still, that wasn't outstanding. These titles could evaporate and I doubt there'd be much changed.

I've been playing through Doom 3 again, and I couldn't disagree more with your master with no equal comment, but hey, each to his own. It can be fun though, but that is about it. I think Half-life 2 is a master with no equal (bar EP1) so hey. *shrugs*

I'm not trying to get into a debate over how good these games are, more that they could and should have been sooo much more.

yea, but look at STALKER and you will see that they have to do what they have to do. Do their best, release the game ready or not. doom 3 spent many extra years in development as it was.

And, I disagree, I think Goldeneye was great, but Doom 3 is great in it's own right, with a decades worth of graphical and sound improvements to boot.

Anyway, I wasn't really trying to argue that you should like these games. In fact, I was saying, buy the games you like.

I just want to make it very clear the effect that this game had.

This is what would happen if there never was Doom 3:

- I wouldn't have bought a computer.

- I wouldn't have bought my ATI graphics card, and extra RAM.
(Supports PC game hardware companies)

- I wouldnt' have bought a graphics card, so I wouldn't have bought the 10 PC games that I bought in the past few years.
(Supports: video games in general, and especially on the PC)

- I wouldn't have bought Max Payne 2, Call of Duty + expansion, Medal of honor complete set, medal of honor Pacific assault, Half-life 2, Silent Hill 3, Painkiller, Riddick, World of Warcraft, and whatever else I bought.

- I am gone. I am not at this website, because I never got into PC gaming. This is my first Game PC, and I got it to play Doom3, Medal of Honor, and hopefully, maybe this new game Half-life 2.

- I would have never learned to Mod games.
(supports PC games, PC development software, future developers)

- And, like I mentioned, there would be 5 less PC games like Quake, Prey, and expansions (out of the ever-dwindling amount) for the entire world this past couple of years.

So you see, my whole life would be different.

I like playing all my old SNES, and other console games emulated on my PC with ultra 4x HQ image filters.

I'm glad there was a Doom 3. :)

I'm glad I got my PC. I'm glad I wont' have to buy more than 1 console to enjoy most of the good games out there, and all the benefits of both worlds, PC/Console.

I am only 1 person, but there are others, just like me, that waited about 10 years for Doom3, and bought a computer and whatever else, and video card just to play it, and this effects much more than even what I have described here. You take away Doom 3, and you might wish you hadn't done that.

Lol. I'm over-tired. Sorry for going overboard on this. I guess it was fun.

^^

What he said. Jesus Christ almighty. If Doom 3 hadn't come along, the next big thing would have made you upgrade yourself. In the grand span of all gaming, Doom 3 was a novel blip (mostly because of its graphics).

Also, calling Quake IV a great game is like calling Bea Arthur a "beautiful young lady". You can say it all you want, but it'll never be true.

  :laugh ....................
I cant believe you said that.
You are just trying to annoy people, and you are succeeding.

These are games you say should never have been made:
reaktor said:
Doom, rpgs, pes/fifa, zelda, mario 64, 3d sonic games.

Nobody could believe you said that either. Your opinion on games is worthless. Solaris told you to GTFO after posting that, and I don't think anyone disagreed. ONly samon would back you, and thats only because you didn't list Half-life2 in there.

reaktor said:
I disagree. First of all the genre had been around for a long time before doom. Secondly i dont think doom really did anything that wouldnt have been done anyway. It is one of the worst games i have ever played.
Previous 3D games were nothing like the smoothness of Doom. Most of them were a slide show, and were less than 1 frame per second. I know because I own them. Others were also based on a grid, and your moves were locked to the grid. I know because I own them.

The smooth FPS was created by id Software with Wolfenstien3D. Its common knowledge. Starting with Wolfenstein 3D, and improved the engine drastically with Doom, then improved it even further with for Quake, then licensed the technology to other companies like electronic arts, which used it to create Medal of Honor.

Here is you reactor "man, I think the first car ever made was the worst car ever made, and wish they never invented it.", "eventually someone would have invented the car without it".

So, you don't want to give any credit to Doom, which is widely regarded as one of the most important PC games ever, so I don't really care if you believe in heaven or hell, or what you believe, but I also think you being a troll for saying Zelda, Doom and other games with a huge fan base should never have been made.

And I'll say it again
These game sell tons of PC video cards. If people don't buy video cards, they all but stop making video cards for PC's, and they get much more expensive, being sold to developers only. And what is the point in developing for the PC if nobody is buying the hardware to play the games?

We can argue the fate of the world all night, or the way the future * might have unfolded/ what if* but it's not like we can really know, so, your point is taken. You don't agree with it.

What he said. Jesus Christ almighty. If Doom 3 hadn't come along, the next big thing would have made you upgrade yourself. In the grand span of all gaming, Doom 3 was a novel blip (mostly because of its graphics).
Nah, this was my first PC since (Doom1 shareware was released) I had one and was doing some programing back when Windows was invented, and I got it with PC games in mind. And again, Doom 3 is one of my top 5 favorite games ever, and there is nothing anyone can say that can change my mind, so just accept it. It's getting on my ****ing nerves every day I have to defend it. Go play yoru ****ing pokeman or whatever gay games you guys like and piss off thanks.

Your point is still hilariously inept though. I have to agree with Reaktor/Ab here, there is no way that Doom changed gaming at all, people would have still gladly upgraded for HL2...

You are just trying to annoy people
If you think i am trolling then why am i not on your ignore list? Thats the best way to handle trolls; giving them attention is not.
Your opinion on games is worthless.
This is coming from someone who thinks there is a very real chance that pc gaming would now be dead had it not been for doom 3?

No, I didn't say that. I was saying that if you took away Doom 3, then at least 4 other games wouldn't come out either. (D3 engine games)

Now, with that said, what does PC have? 5 or 6 new games per year? While consoles sometimes get 200 games in one year? If you think PC gaming isn't in jeopardy, you have a blindfold on. WoW is holding it down right now. ID, VALVE, EA, Unreal, and all of the others have all jumped ship and are now developing on consoles.

Compared to the hundreds of console developers, there is like 2 PC developers left like Blizzard and Crysis with their Cryengine II, and even Far Cry was developed on the 360.. it's only a matter of time before they "port" to PC if you are lucky.

The only reason Blizzard is looking good for PC's is becuase of a keyboard, but these new consoles like 360 have voice chat and keyboard support. Wake up. It's happening. PC games are barely holding on, go ahead and burn your bridges if you want. I don't really care as much about cutting edge games as much anymore, so I'll be alright. I'll just play the games that are already available.

If you are desperate for attention, you are asking for it from the wrong person, trust me. We are going to have a bad time.

Consoles also get A LOT of crap, and if you take the crap we get on PC, the numbers heighten a bit. I also don't really see how this proves your point, since Doom 3 was terrible.

"Compared to the hundreds of console developers, there is like 2 PC developers left like Blizzard and Crysis with their Cryengine II, and even Far Cry was developed on the 360.. it's only a matter of time before they "port" to PC if you are lucky."

A. There are not "hundreds" of console developers, and there are definetly more than two for PC, especially if you count minor devs.
B.Doom 3 and it's expansion were ported to the XBOX! The more you know!

"The only reason Blizzard is looking good for PC's is becuase of a keyboard, but these new consoles like 360 have voice chat and keyboard support. Wake up. It's happening. Once again, this doesn't prove why Doom 3 savvvved the day for PC gaming!

Huh?? There are way more than 5 or 6 every year.

I dont see it. I see some problems arising but i dont think they will be the end of pc gaming.
For example the time, cost and effort required for making modern games is always growing.. I actually have an idea regarding that but i doubt it would really work in practice and people would pick a million holes in it so i wont bother saying what it is.
If you are desperate for attention, you are asking for it from the wrong person, trust me. We are going to have a bad time.
No, we are not because im not getting into a pointlessly long drawn out argument about opinions. If you think i am trolling, ignore me.

You can bet Quake 4 would have been made regardless of Doom 3. ID will never stop making engines, we would've had the Quake 4 engine instead of the Doom 3 engine. Prey would've been made, probably with the Quake 4 engine. Ditto with ET:QW. Valve hasn't jumped ship, they still develop primarily on PC, EA sucks now, true ID and Epic are turncoats but I doubt they will abandon the PC altogether.

"No, I didn't say that. I was saying that if you took away Doom 3, then at least 4 other games wouldn't come out either. (D3 engine games) (actually 5, i forgot the amazing Quake Wars)"
siacker said:

Can you name one?
They have to have a demo to show what the engine can do. Showing the game in action says alot more than some scribbling on a paper of what the D3 engine can do about specular maps and shadows.

I don't really understand that. I don't think consoles get any crap these days. There are different games for different tastes, but I don't think you find a totally worthless game. ( a game that is disliked by a majority of players)

again you are arguing points that you don't really have anything on. I'm sorry, but I'd take 100-200 games per year, per console, over 5 PC games per year any day. What are you smoking? (many are mulit-system granted)

Besides the games I keep mentioning, like Wow, D3, and HL2, etc., PC games are only just surviving.

Not to be rude, but I don't make this shit up as I go along man. While I don't always get out my calculator, I try to guess pretty accurately. Here is about 50 developers (wild guess - you count) that will are developing for the 360 alone! Add in PS2/PS3 , Gamecube, Wii developers up to find out there ARE hundreds of console developers:

go here and scroll down the list of developers on the right. Quite a few, and there are others for other systems

Touche!
ID Software, forever a PC developer and pioneer in PC games, has gone on record to say they are now going to be developing their games on the 360. Some will be 360 exclusives, and others will be ported to the PC!
that is a nail in the coffin. PC gamers took Doom 3 for granted, console gamers gladly welcome the id games on board. You guys are burning your bridges booing and hissing at Doom3.

Once again, this doesn't prove why Doom 3 savvvved the day for PC gaming!
I don't really understand this point here. First, I never said it saved the day, I said it has single handedly contributed 4-5 games (5 if they make Prey 2) ((actually 6 with Quake Wars coming)) in the past couple of years alone. Thats like 1/3 or 1/2 of the total new games that have been released were based ont he D3 engine, and Wolfenstien 360 will use a modded D3 engine, and Quake Wars: Enemy Territory, one of my most anticipated games, is now a 6th D3 engine game that helps PC gaming.

I don't think it will be a problem. I just need to stop posting here. If I post anything, I end up spending most of my day here, reading and typing, no matter how much time I planned to be here.

I must leave now guys.

Everything is not going to be OK.

As another Doom 3/iD Software fanboy, I can honestly say that Doom 3 wasn't revolutionary, VirusType2. It was from a technical view, but gameplay wise it was kind of a mess - I wish they spent more time planning it out.

As another Doom 3/iD Software fanboy, I can honestly say that Doom 3 wasn't revolutionary, VirusType2. It was from a technical view, but gameplay wise it was kind of a mess - I wish they spent more time planning it out.

I must have a different game than everyone else, because the gameplay on my copy of Doom 3 is unbelievable. Unmatched by any other FPS game. I will once again offer up another condensed explanation of why I like this game.

The soldiers, with the different gun types are so much fun, the spiders are fun, the zombies are fun, the imps are great, unlike most games, you can dodge their fireballs, and they will try to predict your movements, and they have combo attacks and it is really amazing what they have done with the imp in particular. The skeletons [revenant], dodging their rockets, and blasting them in the face, the arch vile with it's flames, there are like 20 enemies in the game, and each one unique... every monster is awesome.

Every level is awesome. The graphics, while not the best ever seen in a FPS, are extremely nice looking and the shadows, again, not the best ever seen in some of the cryengine 2 tech demos and such, are so intense and atmospheric. The intro music just kicks way too much ass. The GUI's (computer control panels), telleports, hell levels, and particles on the surface of the planets and the PDA's with their awesome voice dialog, and the incredible Soul cube and plasma gun, chaingun, and other weapons that can - in seconds, be altered by the hundreds of weapon and sound mods out there.

It's just overall one of my top favorite games ever, if not only because, it can be easily modified, and you don't have to know how to do it, someone like me can do it for everyone else, so it's awesome. The art work is insane and exactly the type of evil shit I like, with bodies exploding and skeletons with the most sickening explosion of organs ever witnessed and eye balls popping out and fantastic ragdolls (again, not the best, and sometimes buggy, but quite awesome most of the time) blood splatters all over the wall and floor with each projectile strike. You can also change a few numbers and blood stays for as long as you tell it to. There are also mods like bloody footsteps and blood trails, and other serious graphic engine improvements.

The game is long as hell, its' not too easy, and not too hard, it has awesome weapons, the game was designed to be modded heavily. That is part of what makes the game so great. People come to expect this sort of thing, but most game creators want their games under lock and key, and any modification is against the law. I know with my mod that is about 600 MB or something ( I actually forget right now). This game KICKS ASS. I could go on for pages and pages, but I will spare you all.

I have never tried to convince anyone to like it - to each his own, but I will always argue that it does NOT suck - it's just not your type of game if you don't like it. It generates so much hatred from the fanboys of similar games. I like them all - all of these games, some more than others of course, but I don't have to hate one to like one better.

I just have a few new interests right now, like M.U.G.E.N., so my mod is on standby this week, or I'd be playing Doom 3 all day and night, constantly testing thousands of changes like I have been for much of the past year.

I think he means 5 or 6 decent pc games released a year (which is being a little generous ;) )

It's getting on my ****ing nerves every day I have to defend it. Go play yoru ****ing pokeman or whatever gay games you guys like and piss off thanks.

This is amusing.

For all your condescending seniority crap about we're too young to form an opinion on games, you act like a twelve year old. :)

Unbelievable! I don't know where you get off Absinthe, 75% of your posts are condescending attacks that sound just like that! :shakes fist: Isn't that why you were banned? :p

I might have an outburst sometimes, I get frustrated, but I don't think I act like a twelve year old. Besides, sometimes I get so frustrated with you guys, I just use a counter-attack like that to put things in perspective. In this case the point was that there are different games for different people. Just because I'd rather rub salt into my eyes than play Pokémon, that doesn't make Pokémon a bad game. I just don't like it. Same goes for Doom 3. Some of you can't stand it, fair enough. I don't call Pokémon a bad game though, because it's not. My niece and nephew love it.

If you ask me, telling someone to "go play yoru [sic] ****ing pokemon or whatever gay games you guys like" qualifies as pretty childish. But this isn't about Absinthe- he wasn't getting personal. The fact is, you've responded pretty outlandishly to some of these remarks. Now, I really enjoyed Doom III- I played it a great deal, and I still pick it up occasionally- but personally, I don't believe it plays that large a role in PC gaming. Still, nobody has attacked you to such a degree as to warrant such responses.

No, I was banned at my own request. And at the very least, I don't degrade into childish "lol gay fgt pokemon stfu" diatribes.

Look, if you like Doom 3, then that's fine. Nobody is (or at least shouldn't be) contesting that. But it was not significant, really. Yes, its engine spawned a few more games, but none could be described as overwhelming in quality or revolutionary in any sense. What Doom 3 will be remembered for is a milestone in gaming technology and visuals. But in a market like this, such things are an inevitability waiting right around the corner.

QFT, I do think he's acting a bit immature in this thread tbh.

I didn't say it didn't qualify as childish. I said I sometimes need to stoop down to argue with you guys to show how some of you are acting, and to prove my point.

Everything I've said is either a fact (or my best recollection of a fact), or my opinion.

No, I was banned at my own request.
That makes sense.

Yes you do Absinthe. Really rich of you to call me childish. Not only are you the poster child for the type of activity you call me out for, you are name calling by even calling me childish, for the love of god.
Look, if you like Doom 3, then that's fine.
THATS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING THE WHOLE ****ING TIME! BUT IT'S NOT FINE. yOU GUYS WONT ACCEPT THAT I LIKE IT.

Well, they do contest it, and it's bugging me.

Yes, they can be described as high quality or revolutionary, as I have already done, and it's not just me, look here:

Doom:

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,600,000 for doom 3 revolutionary.
Prey:

Results 1 - 10 of about 3,580,000 for prey innovative.

Yes, it's true that technology advances, but that doesn't take anything away from them, or have anything to do with the point. I still can have fun playing a 1972 arcade game called PONG with my brother, just like many years from now, I can still have fun playing Doom 3 with my brother. I still have tons of fun playing the classic Doom from 1993 (with zDoom so I can aim up and down with the mouse, thanks to Doom's ability to be easily modified), some 13 years ago.

Look:
http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/Ad_Pong-Arcade.JPG
1972 with Atari PONG

There were dozens of other games that tried copied PONG. Oh look, this time you have two paddles, or multiple balls, or this time it's 16 colors, or this time it's faster, etc. They copied. Just like many games copied Wolf3D, and Doom, and just like many will copy what Doom3 has done, and it looks like it's already started, with games like Prey, which no one will deny, has a very similar art style from that of Doom 3.
Doom (or DOOM)[1] is a 1993 computer game by id Software that is among the landmark titles in the first-person shooter genre. It is widely recognized for its pioneer use of immersive 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gaming, and the support for players to create custom expansions (WADs). Distributed as shareware, Doom was downloaded by an estimated 10 million people within two years, popularizing the mode of gameplay and spawning a gaming subculture; as a sign of its impact on the industry, games from the mid-1990s boom of first-person shooters are often known simply as "Doom clones". Its graphic and interactive violence[2] has also made Doom the subject of much controversy reaching outside the gaming world. According to GameSpy, Doom was voted by industry insiders to be the #1 game of all time.[3]

Are you kidding me? And to think, I stuck up for you when everyone was bashing you, and you put it in your signature for 8 months. Nobody likes you anymore, now that I don't. I see how you are. I stick up for you, you gang up on me. What a pal.

Calling me immature? Here, read this thread "the Steven"

I like all of you guys, but when you turn on me, you can expect I will turn right with you. Maybe some of you should ask to be banned again?

All of you should ask to be banned again or stop bothering me. I like all of you guys, but when you turn on me, you can expect I will turn right with you.

...f*ck it. I'm leaving this thread. You've turned a molehill into Mount Everest :|
