Ok I am getting damn sick and tired of having to use dial up. Especially when I am always on the phone with tech-support trying to get my connection working. Dial up does not meet the standards for which I require.

My only other option is satellite but I have heard more bad than good. Besides I really want broadband for gaming and satellite has a really low upload stream.

I had my dad call Verizon about 3 or 4 years ago asking when dsl would be available to us. They said within the year.

I have sent numerous emails to local cable and dsl providers. But that is just one voice that they hear and I doubt they would come set up lines on my road due to the fact that one person is requesting it.

The stupid thing is that I live on a County road where a new house is built about every 1-2 years. Infact these people just got done building a house right across the road from me. Yet some backwoods dirt road, with about 5 people living on it, in my town has cable available. Doesn't make sense.

I am thinking of developing some sort of census from my neighborhood.
I would say there are about 30+ houses on the 4+ miles of road where there is no broadband available. I would probably develop some kind of form asking if they would purchase broadband services if it were available to them plus several other questions. Then if they do want services I would have them put their signature on the form and have them mail it back to me. Then I would send that to either the cable provider or dsl provider or maybe both.

Does this sound like a reasonable plan or something a crazed teenager with broadband envy and a thirst for blood would do?

If it is reasonable do you think it would be enough for them to consider making it available?

I am at the point where I would do anything for broadband. Maybe I need a gun... :sniper:

If you have alternative suggestions feel free to tell me.

I doubt it'll work, unless the ISPs think they gan gain some profit from your area they won't come in and make broadband available for you... sorry :(. Unless you pay for the entire cabling operation wich i doubt you will :/

Well, it certainly couldn't hurt. If you try it though, I would suggest going around to all the houses door to door to get signatures. Otherwise they may just toss it with the junkmail.

hmmm... how much would it cost to get broadband service available on yur street? cause if its expensive then i'd say thats a definately no towards them putting it in. Its all about profit so hopefully its cheap to put in or u get a hell of alot of signatures.

Sorry to say this but there's no chance that the DSL provider will provide the lines in a low population area. It's a cost/benefit decision the company make, and judging your story there are simply not enough people/companies that would make use of it. So satellite or moving would be the only option....

Then pray tell. Why would they run cable up and over a dirt road on the side of a hill where at most 10 people live?

Because thepeople that live there might have paid them to lay the cable, or they are planning to buíld alot of houses there.

I have the same problem :( and I don't think anyone around here even owns a computer :P
