i feel the the author and creator of this poll did not want to discuss too much about "cost of re-training" etc..
he just wanted a general idea of whether we would switch or not... hes welcome to correct me.. and even then, under the assumptions i have laid out, would u switch?

i'm the creator of the poll...i made the point about re-training and microsoft...so yes i did want to discuss those things...lol

Theres nothing wrong with Widnows other than Microsofts morally wrong monopoly on the computer industry , but as one man theres nothing I can do to fight that. Dont fix it if it aint broke.

bah, don't think like that. one person can do a lot...you can influence others, who can influence even more people. you just have to have the right thing to say and the right thing to stand for.

apart from experimental versions of Linux it is quite easy to install, I want to use Linux because of all the free software that comes with it and the KDE desktop, plus it's more interesting.

As for microsoft, I don't believe they are interested in making users like me happy, if they were I would be able to use my own visule styles without cracking windows and the windows installation would give me the option of running only the services I actually need.

well about 60% of people would switch with better driver support and games...that's only out of 53 votes, but it's quite interesting

well now i feel silly...

/goes back to what he was doing before this mess

Actually the poll only asked if there were more games for linux, not if there was more software. I run a lot more software than the one or two games I have. It is unlikely that Linux will replace Windows until software companies produce Linux versions as commonly as Windows versions...which I can't imagine happening for many years. Besides stuff I use personally, professionally there are a lot of apps available on Windows that aren't there or aren't on Linux. Interoperability is a huge issue.

There are actually very few applications that linux doesn't have, most windows apps have a linux clone.

eh, I dunno. I don't like having to compile everything, and win2k does me fine. I wouldn't really have any motive to switch.

you don't have any comment that has to do with the article? i think if this kind of thing happens for real, lots of people will be switching to linux or at least dual booting to share files.

well, I just got meself WineX and Cross over Office which lets you run DX games and office apps (photoshop, Dream weaver etc) on linux, but the trouble with linux is, you cant simply go into the "Start" menu and select your app, you have to do some commands :|

I really wanna switch to linux, but it has its disadvantages
