Seems that a lot of people are jumping over eachother to get at the HL2 SDK. You might be one of those people. Let's pretend that it's actually possible to compile the code and get yourself a nice little hl2.exe to play (albeit an extreme amount of things are missing from the game and it's probably buggier than the XBOX). Would you actually dare to execute the program??

... I would :x

Note: I'm mostly doing this because I'm actually interested in the poll results. If you all really think this is "just another SDK thread", *sigh* then go ahead and close it.

say it in a better way .. would you steal the hl2 source from valve so you could share it with the rest of the world ? and if yes .. would you ??? .. pleaaaaaaase :p
And the xbox isn't buggy .. so it should be the final build ..

Depends on what it is... but in this case definitely legal please :)

Do people just make up ridiculous polls to see how many people will vote? Like they post a topic thats popular at the moment. Last week it was the delay, a couple days ago it was the benchmark, today its source code... People just post topics over and over to see who can get more replies. Its like an online ego race to see who gets more... Does anyone else see this? Mods? People? Do you? Or is it just me, pissed off on my lunch break cuz my General Tsou's isnt here yet!?

Extreme amount of things missing? You dont say? Take any game you have installed. Now remove everything but the dll and exe files. Try to run it and see how cool it is :dozey:

No, I would only want to try the 100% done game

I wouldn't get it. It wouldn't be fair to my schoolproject & it might get me a bad grade in my course ;) for using illegal software.

For almost any other game I was looking forward to, I'd say yes....but Half Life 2 is going to be the first game I've played in years where I don't know what to expect, especially regarding the story and surprises. Call of Duty, for example, is almost ruined for me because all the previews have described damned near every level in detail. I think in this one case I would be able to resist the temptation to download a buggy product to I can play the full version from a blank slate, provided its still on for a holiday release date.

However, if I hear they push the game back into 2004, I don't think I'd be able to resist. :)

See, now I'm getting poll results which are very interesting to me, thus I feel this thread was a success on my part.

A majority say they wouldn't take the hack, whereas after chatting with so many people, I was getting the impression that since everybody wanted the source, that meant everyone wanted to play the game illegally. This poll shows otherwise, thus I hold a new perspective on things.

no body seems to take into account 1 basic thing.

SRC contains no game code all it contains is an exe file.

every game needs textures levels ... actual data to run.

The exe file would excute and look at you blankly.

No "welcome to HL2" nothing it would just be called HL2.exe

I doubt it would run at all without the intro videos (if there are any), the menu graphics/text, etc and without steam authenticating HL2.

i'd play beta if it were leaked and i wouldn't be less suprised or think it would ruin the game. No other beta i played did. Complete is always a different game anyways.

Here's another question that I have for you people.

If you knew, that Gabe's or some other Valve worker's house was very close to yours...and that they had a complete HL2 copy (with install and everything) just laying on their table...would you try to swipe it? If so, would you try to leak it to others? I'm on the fence for both issues.

In that hypothetical situation, if Gabe wouldn't give me a copy (after days of repeatedly asking him and offering lots of money)...
I'd swipe it, copy it, put it back exactly where I found it, and never tell anyone.

... and I would still buy the game when it actually came out.
