Would you like a different intro/outro for HL2? If you do,how would you like it?

personally I would have liked to see in the intro that you actually answered "no" to the Gman in HL1,and in the outro that a third party cheated the Gman taking you and Alyx away from the explosion while leaving him behind :>

It's basically what would you do different about the beginning and the end of HL2.

Outro, definately not. Intro...I enjoyed it, but I would have liked to have seen the original intro where Gordon is dropped onto the Borealis.

well the choice where you refuse to work for g-man just sends you 3 seconds from death vs a lot of alien grunts without any guns.

As far as intros are concerned, i'd like to see the train ride in hl2 last longer. Not the hl1 length but more than hl2's

Flying: I would have liked for HL2 to be some sort of punishment for rebellious Gordon,a way to tame him by giving him a bond/bait with Alyx or some kind of christmas carol-like "ghost of the future" tale. Btw I choosed the fight I couldn't win,high % of badass ^^;;

You aren't by any chance coming up with another addition to the substance "mod" are you? Read Raising the Bar if you want extra material for the train ride. It was originally going to be significantly longer.

Heh. But no. First off saying no=death. What would have been cool is if they had made the train ride just about 20 seconds longer. Not as long as the HL1 train. Just show you people being shoved into the pods for the trip to Nova Prospekt or something on that order. Get you unnerved.

Dangit, I wanted to play through that part just to see what would happen after that if I somehow won. ;)

yeah, I wanted the train journey to be longer.......But the length of time from getting off the train and getting the crowbar was perfect.....gets you really immersed.

I would have liked a longer train journey too - starting in the wastelands and working your way into C17

I'd like to see the crazy-long intro that Marc Laidlaw originally envisioned.

It's all outlined in "Raising the Bar," and the description is simply awesome.

JCampbell: nooooo,how could you ever think something like that? ;)

for the uninformed,the cut finale featured Gordon waking up on a grassy hill and beside him the Gman spoke about the future - for a lot of time,showing at the same time the world change. The biggest problem in recreating this would be the gman dialogue! But his voice is so unnatural and robotic maybe a speech engine would work good enough

Gordon Freeman...Dr.Gordon
I wonder where he got his P.H.D?
Prague UNIVERSITY?

he must have a degree in psychology too,he knows that listening can be more important than selling advices ;)

I'm pretty sure that was actually cut intro material.

I'll have to go back and reread.

EDIT: Yep, cut intro material.

DarkStar: most definitely yes,my bad!

my mapper show me this really neat forest + lake MP level. We could have a finale where you wander through that with a romantic/sad music going on until Alyx shows up looking at the sunset,then you approach her,she salutes you and then dissolvence,the end. ***SIGH*** I know my players are romantic enough to want that :'''')

The intro was perfect. It set the tone well, immersed the player effectively and was a nice link between the end of part one and the beginning of part two.

The ending however, although good, was over a little too quick for my liking. I kinda just sat there staring at the screen the first time waiting for something else.

It turns out that that would be HL2: Aftermath.

Doh.

I would have loved to have seen a longer intro/train ride.

But surely the intro didn't really end when you got off the train, it was the whole experience until (for me) you met barney.

At least that's when the credits stopped rolling. I thought the intro was just perfect. Immersive gaming at its finest.

Riding a train in a computer game is about as much fun as riding one in real life. Living in London, that is NOT fun.

It isn't fun no matter where you live.

seems like the cut intro featured:
1) you waking up on the grass,everything's normal;
2) the gman starts speakin' about the world whereabouts and the nature,sky and river begin to die;
3) explosions,screams,the far city looks spooky;
4) alien plants begin to grow,unnatural lights in the sky;
5) total badland,the gman stops his dialogue and you are transported to the train for your usual ride.

I don't think it would have been that extra longer,intuitively I'd say no more than an extra 2 minutes. But probably it would have been too difficult to understand for people who never played HL1. Too bad it wasn't hidden somewhere in intro.bsp...

EDIT
as of now,we could modify the Nature map to feature a "green room" and a "grey room": the green one is the garden you see above,while the gray one is a duplicate with everything destroyed and combined. During the intro you could just start in the green one and,after a flash,continue in the gray one as the gman does his usual speech. After you beat the game,you have a short glimpse of the gray one but ultimately return to the green one for the happy ending with Alyx

So you wanted HL2 to last all of 2 seconds?

ríomhaire: I wanted Gordon to react as a 24's Jack Bauer and take on Gman,he's no girlie man! :cat:

WARNING: EXTREMELY COOL SHOTS BELOW!

You guys do realize they had another entire section of city 17 completely mapped and scripted but for whatever reason they cut it out. You know that shot on the back of the box? The one with the civilians lined up outside of a building? That map actually goes on for quite a bit longer than that. They really should have included it, because for me, I just love narrative-heavy sequences like this:

what happened to that? I read that too and I Was like....why the hell did tehy not put that in!?!

I seriously think they chopped something like 50% of the game to counter the economic loss caused by the leak

Ten bucks says we will see some of this stuff in Aftermath

This is all pretty exciting stuff when I think about it. Those shots were very cool, and make me pine for a much longer stay in City 17.

Again, fingers crossed Aftermath will deliver the goods.

There wasn't any economic loss caused by the leak.

Do you think someone's going to say "Oh wow I had a glimpse at the leaked stuff now I don't need to buy HL2 anymore"

Or they could think "[CENSORED]"

Pi mu rho told me not to talk about it anymore so.....

I ask because I honestly don't know at all,please don't flame me: is the E3 HL2 demo available *to play* (not just an avi file)?

i still think it would be cool if after the game ends. A slideshow starts up fallout/fallout2 style that explains what happened to certain characters later down the line.

For example, Random male medic #15 finally got to mate for the first time in 30 years

CP 34-1 opened up a business called Overwatch Home Security Systems, selling scanners, turrets, and high end security cameras to you, the customer, for less than the leading competitors. And yes, we will price match.

Hunter chopper Pilot #3 began a new life giving chopper tours to those with the $

Adrian Shepard is...around here...somewhere, i think

Barney Calhoun has gone from being undercover within the overwatch to being undercover within a prostitution ring. Deep undercover.

Dr. Kleiner didn't realise that headcrabs grow back their beaks and ended up screaming backwards for 3 years.
Barney killed every cat in existance (there was only 3 left) and finaly gave Gordon that beer (although Gordon didn't get the 300+ beers owed to him by the rest of the BM security team).
Alyx ended up as a flat glob of red after being crushed by Dog.
"Put the can in thrash-can" man finaly saved up enough credits for 'non-mechanical reproduction simulation'.
Eli and Dr. Mossman ended up a very happy red blob after the top of the citadel exploded.
