Ok, before the Mods get into legal rammifications, or mod guru's flame me for copying an old idea, I just wanna see how interested people would be if a HIGH-quality re-make of the Nintendo 64 classic was re-created onto the source engine. I know how VALVe re-created CS:S and people still play it, and will want to play it in the future.

So i wanted to know how many people would think that a 8 year old classic game changed into a re-make on the source engine would be a good idea, 'With Physics, updated graphics, realistic sounds, a cool soundtrack, visually updated/enhanced levels' would be?

Imagine a re-creation of 'Temple' With sand and myst everywhere with 16 players and rcp-90's going at it or with phantoms, even throwing knives, or maybe play some facility with more objects/decorations/updated textures and cool environments?

Thanks, and please Mods, don't move/delete/close this thread.

One Word: Exceptionally.

Goldoneye for N64 will always be classic, but who says we cant have a little fun?

Well....maybe. It depends on how well made the mod would be done. It would be a crime to make a crappy version of it.

God, I loved that one trick you could do where you ended up having 3 arms. That was cool.....

Yes

Any game would be nice on Source.

No. Don't destroy a classic.

How can you destroy a classic by improving it? If there was to be a remake in Source, all I would so is update the graphics and implement more realistic physics.

*Dreams of playing GoldenEye Dam level on Source*

You are aware that there's a new Goldeneye FPS in the works, I presume?

Well, this mod WILL be of high-quality. The main programmer has already designed his OWN 3D engine all in C++, so he's a little experience with that coding languange to say the least.

The Mod will more than likely be mostly Multiplayer *at first*. But don't be surprised to hear of some of the Single-Player Levels being ported to Multiplayer. But Singleplayer 007 Source will definately be in the makings.

Ya, but you play as a 'bad guy'. Alot of people don't like the sounds of it, that's where a re-creation of the original comes to mind. Where's the fun in playing anyone BUT James Bond in a Bond Game?

I would be interested in following the progress of this mod, is there a webpage for it?

You would have to be very careful not to infringe any copyrights, but I hope it works out.

plus it's not made by rare so i don't have high hopes for it.

Remakes suck.

They ruin the classic status of the game.

We don't have a website, and one of our obstacles is staying away from legal trouble, so we wont have the EXACT names, we can't use Bond, 007, GoldenEye, etc...But that's not a big deal as long as the mod is awesome. We will have a site up soon, and log onto our irc channel in my sig.

Have one version that is as close to the original as possible in everyway except graphics. That means no physics.

See how that does and then think about adding other features like physics.

You would not "add" physics early on. You would take them away.

Nooooooo!

GE is a classic - leave it as it is :)

You are probably the 100th mod team to attempt such a project in the last 3 years (with various engines). Let it die already. Take the time to do an original mod.

Not like you will get approval from EA to use their IP anyways.

The thread starter is talking about having physics as a game feature in the mod. I'm saying don't include them until you see just how much it would affect the game. In that case you would "add" them in later.

Its Rare that made the game and they report to Microsoft. Besides whats so wrong with having a little bit of fun? Its not like the original Goldeneye would be ruined if the mod didn't turn out any good.

I honestly don't think it would work... just do an orginal mod in the same spirit... like players being able to take a ton of damage, proximity mines, stuff like that...

My thoughts exactly. People seem to think that making a crappy mod would somehow 'taint' Goldeneye. The original will remain the same, whats wrong with having something to aspire to? Valve did it with HL...

Here's what I mean't. With Source, physics are automatic. If you create a box, it will already be a physics object, so you would have to "disable" physics :)

would be cool, but i would prefer Perfect Dark:Source :)

Just wait for Perfect Dark: Zero (or whatever it ends up being called)

Without a doubt that's the FPS I want the most (and just hope Rare can do GE and the original PD some justice. They have, worryingly, semed to have lost their way recently))

mmmmmmm Perfect Dark with modern technology :) *gets a semi*

I understand now, yes then you are correct. :)

Physics are not automatic.

heh, there is one thing I can think of that right now gets me interested. Playing multiplayer would be alot different on a full screen where you couldn't see what the other players are doing.

Also it would be easier to control using a mouse and keyboard.

Well looks like a 2:1 Ration for Yes over No. I just wanted to see if this mod idea would be popular throughout the HL community. I was asking to see if the mod were made available to you, would you try it out to see how it was re-made with more modern technologies, and also add some things in there of what Mullinator suggested ie. Fullscreen, Mouse/Keyboard.

EA recently bought the rights to everything related to James Bond. That includes Goldeneye (which is why EA is in the middle of making the sequel to Goldeneye - *shudder*).

You've got to go through EA, which isn't going to be the best experience for any mod team.

Yes, they are. Let's not get into an argument about this, I've read plenty of interviews that say if you create an object in the SDK and assign a material of say a brick, it will behave like a brick. Sound, fall, and crumble like one. Unless you disable that.

Ask George Lucas! :E (Sorry, sorry, couldn't resist! ;()

I've played neither GoldenEye nor Perfect Dark. I've been hearing loads of excellent stuff about both, and I'd very much like to try them. However, I'm pretty sure I'll never have the chance to try them out on n64, so maybe mods like these could be exactly what I'm looking for. Obviously it won't be the same but at least I'd get to play them.

hmmm... Perhaps, but considering its simply a copy of a game created by another company that would certainly complicate matters.

Besides you could easily get around that by simply changing names, models, and dialogue to something original and then... Allow an anonymous person to release a "patch" which changes all of that to the James Bond theme. Problem solved. :p

At best it'd end up as a fun mod - using the maps, models and weapons of Golden Eye (which is fine)

It'd never play, or feel, anything like Golden Eye, though.

Ok well just to add some more stuff, we WONT be using anything related to bond. So basically the characters/game will have generic names. So far in our internal Alpha Stages we're using the name 00Source, we think it's fine for now.

And as for 'It'd never play, or feel, anything like Golden Eye, though.' Who sais? I mean, everyone on the mod team has the game, there's no reason why our programmers/coders couldn't create the game to make it feel like goldeneye. You'd have to remember though, that with a mouse/keyboard, the gameplay would be more unique to PC gamers, probably alot more fun too.
