I've not seen a poll on this subject so here goes...
Before the leak or any other security compromises at VALVe I would almost definitely have fed my credit card details into Steam for a copy of HL2, but now I don't much feel like buying or subscribing to play over Steam.
I know there will be those that reply saying '..well don't then...' but I actually thought it was a good idea and a good way of getting my money direct to VALVe rather than some bunch of box shifting monkeys.
It's just that all of that changed 9/11
This is based on my assumption that the full C++ code for Steam is now floating around the net for all and sundry to see, coupled with the apparent lack of basic security of critical data at VALVe (ie: no firewall or minimal firewall/DMZ), and then the social engineering incident by Munro.
So the poll is;
Will you feed your debit/credit card details into Steam when it goes live
And optionally as replies;
What would it take for VALVe to win the trust of securely holding our credit card details ?
I can't think of anything in my mind, other than them somehow now using a trusted 3rd party provider...(is that possible?)
PS: I'm not a Steam/VALVe basher, just a concerned consumer :afro:
